Accutane Makes my Rosacea Redness Worse. What Can I Do?

I've been battling Acne for some time, and I'm seeing great results from Accutane. However, it makes my Rosacea redness significantly worse. I understand I won't be able to get any laser help for some time, but is there any hope for me? My nose is bright red all the time!

A: SPF 50 and Skinmedica "Redness Relief Calmplex" for Redness

In addition to avoiding all of the known triggers for rosacea, I suggest diligent use of sunscreen (SPF 50) as well as the new Skinmedica "redness relief calmplex."  This topical product works by inhibiting a prostaglandin (PGE2) which causes inflammation and vasodilation.  It also moisturizes the skin with niacinamide and ceramides which is essential while on Accutane.

Getting Restylane for Lips Before Starting on Accutane?

After Accutane, I'll be off any kind of elective treatment for a year, so can I get fillers in my nasolabial folds and lips BEFORE starting the drug?

But lips dry up and the skin dries up during Accutane treatment, so will that dry up the filler, make it hard?

A: Restylane before Accutane

It seems reasonable to have these treatments done before starting on Accutane.  It is impossible to tell you how you will respond during the Accutane treatment but all you can really do is have the Restylane a few weeks before and see.

How Long After Accutane Can I Get a Salicylic Gel Peel?

I finished a three month course of Accutane (80 mg) a month ago with great results and wanted to know how long I needed to wait before using a 20% salicylic gel peel. Thank you.

A: Wait a year

I would recommend waiting at least a year after finishing Accutane before considering any kind of resurfacing treatment. Peels, laser treatments, and dermabrasion are all types of skin resurfacing, so I would wait a year to prevent scarring.
