Is a Board Certified Dermatologist the Best Way to Go for Dermabrasion?

A: Facial plastic surgeons and dermatologist can perform dermabrasion

Facial plastic surgeons and dermatologists can both perform dermabrasion quite satisfactorily.  It is a great procedure for acne scars and perioral wrinkles.  When used conservatively it is an excellent adjunct to facial cosmetic surgery procedures.

Can I Use Bleaching Cream (Topical 4% Hydroquinone) and Have Dermabrasion at the Same Time

I have several dark spots result from glycolic acid burn at the spa. I saw dermatologist who prescribes topical 4% hydroquinone bleaching cream. Can I have dermabrasion to improve the pigmentation while I am using bleaching cream?

A: Dermabrasion not done to improve pigmentation

Dermabrasion is not used to improve pigmentation on the face.  A dermabrasion may cause further hyperpigmentation and darkening, especially if the patient is on hormones or gets sun exposure.  For a glycolic acid burn at a mini spa continue to use the hydroquinone to reduce the hyperpigmentation.

How Well Can Dermabrasion Remove a Tattoo?

I had a tattoo on my back which I had lasered at least 7 or 8 times and realized that my green ink would just never go away. I then got a cover up and still don't want the new tattoos. How well can dermabrasion 'remove' tattoos?

A: Dermabrasion not for tattoo removal

Dermabrasion is not the best option for tattoo removal. There are many different lasers used to remove tattoos. Look for a dermatologist who has good before and after photos as well as all the lasers available depending upon the color of the tattoo pigment.
