I am considering a temporal lift to elevate the side of my eyebrows and correct excess skin on upper lids. Will the placing of the incisions alter the hairline in the temple earea?
A temporal brow lift can be an excellent procedure for the person that is showing early facial aging but does not yet need a full facelit. It lifts the position of the lateral eyebrows without the unnatural surprise in the center. It puts eyebrows and upper lid lashes in the right relationship to one another. It suspends the cheek fat pad back to its position on the cheekbone and shortens the downward descent of the eyelid-cheek junction. The scar can be concealed in the hairline. The slight elevation of the lateral hairline is well worth the upsides. It is one of my favorite conservative procedures for facial aging.
I have had 2 facelifts, both bad. My lower face is too low on my face and it has been tightened under my cheeks, making my face look narrow, hollow, and sad. I feel the sides and under cheeks need to be taken apart, and relifted, more vertically, probably with incision up into the hairline. I'm having a hard time finding anyone in the Kansas City area who is not afraid of scar tissue and nerve damage in a third facelift. Are some surgeons able to deal with this, and others are not?
A "redo" facelift does require more finesse than a primary one, but it sounds like you have analyzed some features of your face that could be improved. A lift with more upward vector gives rejuvenation in the upper face. It sounds like this portion of your face was not addressed in your prior procedures. Fat grafting can enhance shape of your face and soften the result. Lipostructure (fat grafting) can also improve skin quality if you have thin tissues or dry skin. Complications are a bit higher in repeat facelifts, so make sure you select an experienced surgeon with certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
How much will I have to shave of my beard and moustache before I get a facelift?
You will find that plastic surgeons may vary in their recommendations for dealing with a mustache and beard at the time of a facelift. The upper lip is not usually involved in surgery, so no need to shave your mustache. If your facelift procedure requires limited undermining of the cheek skin you might be able to keep a goatee. Your surgeon will want to be able to visualize your surface contours and easily feel the thickness of the skin flaps that are elevated. A beard could potentially obscure those features. Regrowth of your beard can be valuable during the early phases to camouflage bruising, swelling or scars. Discuss these questions at length with your experienced surgeon certified by the Americn Board of Plastic Surgery.
