Is there any way to tell if I have silicone or saline implants?
There only two ways to know what you have had done in the past: Obtain your records from the surgeon's office where you had them put in. The type of implant will be listed in your file. Short of being able to do that the only other way is to have a plastic surgeon remove them. When the surgery is over he or she can tell you what they found.
Twenty seven years ago the implants weren't made like they are today. Very few people drive twenty seven year old cars. I highly recommend getting these exchanged for newer implants soon.
If I work out a lot, should I go over or under the muscle? Is there a risk of one or the other if I am in the gym and run a lot? I don't want my implants to move or look really fake. Thank you for your opinion.
This always an important concept to understand before you get an augmentation. The pros of going under the muscle if you are an A to small B cup include more coverage of the implant on top and more natural enhancement of your upper cleavage area. Going on top of the muscle is okay by me if you are already a C cup.
None of my patients have ever complained that they lost strength or mobility in their pectoral muscles after getting implants under the muscle. It simply does not affect your work-out or your ability to run, even long distances. I have heard back from hundreds of my patients who are personal trainers, tri-athletes and exercise nuts who feel they haven't given up a thing with their implants under the muscle.
The only brand of breast implants I've heard of are Mentor. Are these the best kind of breast implants to get and do lots of surgeons recommend them?
Mentor is one of two companies that make implants in the United States. The other company is Allergan and they are marketed as "Natrelle." The implants are similar in every way. Touching both implants side by side means you cannot tell which is which. Some surgeons favor one company over the other and may steer you towards one rather than the other.
I use both company's implants and feel my patients get the best result with either company. Choose your surgeon carefully and make sure he or she is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Then let him or her choose which company they want to use.
