I had cartilage excised from both of my ears and had the ears attached with permanent sutures to the head. My surgeon said that I should wear the headband for a month and I've been wearing it 24/7 for 3 weeks, with the exception of a handful of days. Do you think I could switch to night time wear only at this point without affecting the healing or the results?
Otoplasty surgery helps reshape cartilage of the ear. Each surgeon has their own protocol, which may vary a bit. Typically, most plastic surgeons want the ears to be protected for a period of time after surgery. The first week is the most important. Only your otoplasty surgeon can help answer your specific question. Best of luck.

had otoplasty 8 years ago. For a few years behind my ear has been red and swollen and bleeds when touched too hard. There is also drainage. I've been too scared to see the doctor for these years but finally went. He found & removed a suture today, but he didn't know if this was the one causing the problem. If it is the one, how long will it take for my ear to be healed? Also, could this have any long-term negative effects on me? I am very nervous.
What you described is not uncommon. We generally use 3-5 permanent sutures during an otoplasty to bend the cartilage. When one suture extrudes, we remove the offending suture. The others should be left unless they are causing a problem. Once the irritating suture has been removed, the skin should heal quickly. Avoid traumatizing the area and keep it clean.
hello i recently had otoplasty surgery my ears seems to be over corrected and dont look normal at all i was wondering once the dissovable stitches come out will they spring out at all? i am very concerned and not happy about them. could u please help!
The ears have a tendency to return to their original shape. This is why plastic surgeons tend to over correct slightly, to allow for "recoil". Do not be alarmed and wait until your ears are done healing, which typically takes about 6-12 weeks. When you return to your plastic surgeon for a follow up, discuss your concerns. I’m sure they will explain the procedure and reassure you of a favorable outcome after the healing process is mature. If there is persistent over-correction, it may be correctable with a minor touch up in the appropriate time frame.
