I am an African American female with medium complextion. I have fairly large pores on my face on the cheek area, acne scaring as well as blackheads under the skin. I also have some discoloration from sun damage and acne. My plastic surgeon is recommending Melanage Chemical Peel. I know it will help with discoloration but what about the enlarged pores and under the skin blackheads? I have already tried other chemical peels, to no avail! Thank you.
I perform the procedure in my office and using Melange for postinflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) is overly agressive! It is more suitable for melasma or dermal pigment. You risk developing oeverall facial PIH with the treatment.
I had this peel almost 4 mos ago, and hydrafacial 3 mos ago, some sun exposure i guess im in texas, i develop hyperpig and some parts look like white, raise skin, open pores u named! Went to Derm Dr gave me finacea and tretinoin but another Dr. Say that i need 4 chemical peels! Im scare bc i always Outside and im goin tru depression bc how my face looks! I dnt really know what to do, i c scars too what should i do? Keep the latinos or go for chemical peels? Help!! Thanks
I am not sure why you had the peel...was it for acne? If yes then take the Derm's advice and get on a regime that includes the isotretinoin. Finacea is like retin a so you would not need both.
You should be using sunscreen. SPF 45 at least. This is true especially after a peel in anyone who goes out in the sun and we all do that. I would probably NOT give you any more peels. I vote for the advice given to you by the doctor who wants to treat your acne.
Hope this helps you!
Does it increase the chance of blistering during the first few days? Is there an increase in possibly scarring or uneven skin tone?
Dear Soccwr009,
I am so glad you offered us the opportunity here in the RealSelf forum to talk to you about tanning!
The real risk of doing it is the increase susceptiblity of getting malignant melanoma. I have had the unfortunate opportunity to take care of young white women who develope this fatal illness in the prime of their lives. If you want to do something great for yourself and your future, then get a "tan" in a bottle and stay out of the tanning bed.
Yours in good health,
B Johnson MD
