Ive read through most of the stories on explantation.com and most of the after photos look really nice. Seems like a very popular explant surgeon is Dr. Melmed from Dallas. Ive read some of his patients say he does an "internal lift" by "rearranging breast tissue" & no scars. Im interested in this; his patients look better after implant removal than they did before their BA! I email my surgeons office and asked about this, and they dont really know what is meant by "internal lift". Any ideas?
It is not uncommon for us to try and elevate the breast mound higher on the chest wall after removing the implant. Usually the results are quite good, but it has a lot to do with selecting the right patient for the procedure. If you need a lift before having the implant removed or if the implant is really large and has stretched the skin quite a bit, then you will need some external form of lift afterward.
Dear Doctors, I was explanted with capsulectomy 7 days ago, at my request due to implants being too large (375g/dual plane) and thinking I could return to my previous state. My surgeon recommended a smaller implant, rather than explant. My choice was wrong, and I now wish to do as he advised and have smaller implants "redone"...how long do I need to wait for this procedure after explant? Many thanks!
Go ahead and talk to your surgeon about it now. He or she knows your anatomy and case better than anyone else. He or she may feel comfortable going back sooner, rather than later. In general at this stage scar is forming, but is not firm. Shortly it will begin a phase that it becomes tougher to work with and you have to wait that phase out.
I've had saline implants (not large but not sure of size cc's) now for 20 yrs, with no problems. They went through my armpits, so there are no vissible scars. I'm looking into removing them in the near future, and wonder what my options are, and what will need to be done. I've heard that even though they went through the armpits, they need to come out the front, and there will be scaring for sure. also, if I wanted a lift later on, would there be scaring twice?
Saline implants should be able to be removed through the armpit, but none of the capsule or scar tissue can likely be removed. If the implants were not too large or if you have gained weight in your breast, they may not look too deflated afterward.
