How Long Does the Stiffness Last After Juvederm Injections?

I had one syringe of Juvederm put into my lips. The swelling was more than I expected, but I used advil and ice to help it. It was not painful at all. I do like the look of the lips, but I don't like how stiff my upper lip is, especially when I talk. People have asked me repeatedly what is wrong with my upper lip. How long will the stiffness last? I had the procedure done on December 19th.

A: Juvederm in Lips

At this point out from treatment, your lips will Juvederm is pretty well set in place. Gentle message will help slightly, but have not nearly the affect it would have had in the first week. Further,  swelling from the injection procedure itself will have dissipated by now.

Juvederm tends to soften more than Restylane, but will be lodged in your lips for a longer period of time.

It is good that you are pleased with your lips. If you have continued doubts, I would recommend returning to the physician who placed the Juvederm into your lips.

Severe Neurological Symptoms After Juvederm, What Can I Do?

Hi please advice have now been suffering severe symptoms almost 3 months after juvederm ultra 2 injected into glabella area.Have seen neurologists, doctors, had numerous tests,no one has any answer to help.Wrote to allergan, they say juvederm is safe for glabella?I have lost so much weight, headaches with severe burning in front.Had hyaloronidase 4 weeks ago, this did nothing but smooth 2 lumps either side of eyes where ultra 2 was also injected.Am so ill, memory loss is prevalent as are blurry vision

A: Neurologic Symptoms

I concur with my colleagues: it is very doubtful that these symptoms would be due to Juvederm injections. Any filler ( not Botox, which is not a filler), when injected into the glabellar area can lead to problems. However, this is due to either the filler compressing the supratrochler vessels or filler emollization. The latter would cause loss of vision in one eye. Compression of these vessles can cause ischemia and necrosis. Your symptoms do not accord with these findings at all.

Parenthetically, one has to be careful to chose a good, careful injector, who is cautious in this area. Injections should be done slowly and superficially to prevent the above sequelae.

I would continue to see neurologists to determine a cause for your problems.

Would You Recommend Juvederm for my Lips?

I would like my lips to be plumper and have a bit of a pout. They're quite thin (even after using lip liner - as in pics) and the upper lip especially has a very flat look between my nose and lips. Since I have a slight overbite do you think the filler would make my lips look very fake and ducklike? I want it to look natural and subtle. How much do you think I would need and where would I have it injected for the most benefit? Also would you recommend that I get it in my philtral columns?

A: Juvederm for Lip Augmentation

Juvederm is an excellent choice for lip augmentation. I personally find it 'softer' than Restylane. Depending on where you inject, you can have a pouty and/or fuller look. The common mistake I often see with lip augmentation is that providers concentrate on the vermillion border. This will only give a pout without fullness effect---leading to a ducky look.

Most of my patients want fullness without looking too pouty. This is very easily done if you understand the lip anatomy. Juvederm to enhance phitral columns is performed at the same time for certain patients.
