Dysport, Brow Hooding

Used botox 12 yrs, excellent results. New Dr used dysport. After touch up due to dysport not working, brows dropped and look hooded. Doctor 3rd time injected 3 sights below the brows to elevate them & correct hooding. @ 48 hrs, brows elevated but only to drop again after injected with botox Should I return to this doctor or seek a second opinion. Lost faith in this plastic surgeon, obviously, not a clue on proper injection sights. $1000 later, dysport 0 on lines but hooded brows!

A: Would seek another physician

I would not blame the physician per se. He may not be as experienced with Dysport as Botox. Dysport disperses more widely than Botox and if not dosed carefully, can cause problems such as hooding. That brings up the second point: dosing. The plastic surgeon may have not be acclimated to the dosing regimen of Dysport since there are major differences from Botox.

Despite my opinion that you should be lenient, I would look for a second opinion. I would think you would be able to find someone who is skilled and charges less than  $1000, which seems awfully pricey to me.

Signs of Botulism from Dysport

I've used Botox for over 10 years with no issues ever! Tried Dysport last summer and experienced signs of spreading to other areas of the body(trouble swallowing-lost 18 lbs, continuous low grade fever, all over muscle weakness etc) Went to several doctors, had every lab and ct/mri scan which were all normal. I reported possible spreading to FDA and Dysport. Haven't had any injections since 6/09. Since I had a bad reaction am I more likely to have another one?

A: Would Not Recommend

While the molecules differ between Dysport and Botox, more is similar than different. You would not know which part caused this very unhealthy reaction. So I feel that there would be far too much risk for a totally elective procedure.

Dysport for Contouring Lower Face?

Can Dysport be used to contour the lower face? If so, how many units is effective? Is it safe to get a touch-up 3 days later if there is no effect with the first dosage?

A: Dysport uses in the lower face

Dysport can be used in the lower face just like botox. It is considered an off label use in this area. This means that although dysport was FDA approved for the frown lines only as a physician we can place this FDA approved product in other areas. Typical areas are for lip lines, platysma bands(neck bands) , and for the DAO muscles( to decrease the marionette folds and lines)and chin.
