Are there times after the recovery period has ended that a patient may want to wear the girdle again?
I generally have patients wear a compressive abdominal binder for 3-4 weeks. In the fourth week, I usually have them wear this only during the day. If the patient has Liposuction of the thighs or back they may have to wear garments longer (5-6 weeks) but I get them out of the binder first and transition to a more comfortable garment or even Spanx.
Ever since I had my twins almost 5 years ago I've toyed with the idea of a tummy tuck. I can't decide whether the benefits outweigh the risks. I am generally happy with my figure when I'm in clothes but without it's another story. I can't bear to let my husband touch my tummy and am very self conscious of it. The day I delivered the twins I weighed 198lbs and now I'm 125lbs, I'm 5ft 4in. I have stretch marks below my belly button but only a couple around the top of BB. What should I do? Thanks!
Looking at your photos you appear to have a lot of loose skin above and below the umbilicus. Your muscles appear to be loose as well and you likely have rectus diastasis because of your pregnancy. Of course a full consultation should be done by your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon but from what I see just in your photos I strongly suspect a full abdominoplasty will be recommended as the best treatment. Best wishes.
I keep reading that Diastasis Recti does not cause pain but when I do push ups or bend over for more than a few seconds there is a ton of pain in my stomach. Because of the pain do you think insurance will be more likely to cover the tummy tuck
Diastasis repair is a very small component of a true tummy tuck so be prepared for extra surgical fees including, operating room fees, anesthesia fees and surgeon fees. The follow up for a tummy tuck and the care required after, is also much more involved than just a diastasis or hernia repair. The cost difference is something you and your plastic surgeon's office will have to work out in advance. Hopefully it will work out for you and if it does you will be able to save some money. But to bluntly answer your question, no your insurance does not cover the cost of a tummy tuck if it covers the cost of the rectus diastasis repair. Best wishes.
