Can I Combine a Tummy Tuck with Uterine Myomectomy?

I've just been referred to a surgeon for a myomectomy and I'm trying to anticipate how to best plan for my upcoming procedure since I also want to have a tummy tuck. I've been working aggressively at weight loss and have shed 32 pounds in the past 6 months; I still need to lose 48 pounds to get to my goal weight. (1) Can I combine the tummy tuck with the myomectomy? (2) What are the disadvantages to having the procedures separately?

A: Combined procedures.

You may be able to combine them. It depends on whether both surgeons can co-ordinate their time and schedules. The approach may be slightly different if the myomectomy is open or laproscopic. There is slightly increased risk that must be balanced with the economic and recovery benefits. There will be additional out of pocket expenses for the facility and anethesia providers in addtion to your surgeons fees. This should all be documented beforehand.

Mini or full tummy tuck and future pregnancies?

I am currently looking to have a tummy tuck done. As you can see I have quite a few stretchmarks, (two pregnancies, second was a twin surrogacy for my friend). I do however plan on having another child in 5-6 years, NOT before. In the meantime, I will find it impossible to live with this belly. What do you suggest? (In this picture I am 8 weeks post c-section from the twins) Thanks!

A: Tummy.

Let the scar mature. Then you can consider a scar revision if needed or possibly a "mini tummy tuck". Your abdominal wall appears adequately tight and a future pregnancy would loosen it again, so you should consider putting that off for now and concentrate on toning the muscles. There is little that can be done about the stretch marks after they are there, so you may have to accept those for now, Maybe in the future, if a full tummy tuck is done, some of them may be able to be removed.

How Long Does the Average Patient Wear Their Girdle After a Tummy Tuck?

Are there times after the recovery period has ended that a patient may want to wear the girdle again?

A: Compression garment, tummy tuck

I generally have patients wear a compressive abdominal binder for 3-4 weeks.  In the fourth week, I usually have them wear this only during the day. If the patient has Liposuction of the thighs or back they may have to wear garments longer (5-6 weeks) but I get them out of the binder first and transition to a more comfortable garment or even Spanx.
