Loose Neck Skin, What Options do I Have other than a Full Neck Lift?

I dont need a facelift but I have a small amount of loose skin under my chin and 2 folds on my neck. I don't want or need a neck lift as its only loose skin nor do I need lipo as its not fat. As its minimal I would like a local anaesthetic, why do doctors not want to do these minimal corrections? when sometimes these small defects affect peoples self confidence like big problems? I am sick of wearing scarves because I hate my neck folds.

A: Loose Neck Skin Options

Hi and thank you for your question.

Patients with sagging neck skin or excess fat generally may benefit from a neck lift or lower face lift with liposuction. Direct neck lifts with incisions directly under the chin are typically reserved for specific patients and carry the risk of visible scarring. Other options that may be appropriate to improve the neck without face lift surgery include Botox Cosmetic for active neck muscles or silicone chin implant for a weak chin bone structure. Lastly, neck liposuction alone even when there isn't a lot of neck fat may tighten the neck skin in younger patients. Only after a comprehensive evaluation can a plastic surgeon help determine appropriate options for you. Best of luck.

How Soon After a Platysmaplasty with Lipo Can I Start Massaging the Area?

I still have swelling and some ridges which I understand is not unusual at this point. I stopped using ice and start using heat yesterday(day 7)as per instructions from the physicians assistant. Can I start massaging now? What technique should I use?

A: Neck Massage after Lift & Liposuction

Gabrielle65,

It's common to start massaging the neck after a lower face lift, neck lift, or neck liposuction. Massage help soften the area and reduce swelling. One generally starts near the chin and massages downward  toward the collar bone.

When to start neck massage is best determined by your plastic surgeon. Typically, one waits at least 2 weeks, if not longer, before any massage of surgically treated areas. Only after evaluation by your surgeon can he/she help determine appropriate options for you. Best of luck.
