Filler or Lower Blepharoplasty for Lower Lids? (photo)

I am 40 and have genetic under-eye hollowness. It has become markedly worse over the past few years. I really want to do something more on the permanent side, but am now thoroughly confused: An oculoplastic doctor has said that I am not a candidate for a lower bleph/that it wouldn't make me look good. I have, however, seen that it gives amazing results on plenty of people with similar appearances. So - do I add or remove? Advice welcome! Thank you.

A: Lower Eyelid Bag Treatment with Filler or Surgery

Thank you for your question.

Lower eyelid bag treatment is a common request for plastic surgeons. Generally, two options are available: injections or cosmetic surgery. For most younger patients, facial injections with a hyaluronic acid filler such as Restylane help rejuvenate the area. Traditionally for older patients, cosmetic surgery to help reduce fat bulges and excess skin is required. Age alone, however, does not determine the best option.

Only after a comprehensive evaluation by an eyelid specialist can he/she help determine appropriate options for you. The best option for you may not be the best option for another person. As you can see from these forums, eyelid plastic surgeons will offer various opinions. Your cosmetic surgeon and you should come to an agreement together.

Best of luck.

Can I Have a Second Blephroplasty ?

Hello! I'm 16 years old and I had blepharoplasty about 3 months that costed me around $700 , the results I have is that both eyes do not match and my right eyelid and brow are still droopy and everyone says that my stitches are red and very obvious ... So My question is that can i have another upper eyelid surgery to make them perfect?

A: Timing of Repeat Eyelid Surgery

Hi and thank you for your question. Generally, most patients may have a second eyelid surgery after already having blepharoplasty. The face continues to change from natural aging and sun damage. Plastic surgery does not stop facial aging. The timing of the second blepharoplasty largely depends on your specific anatomy and personal goals. However, cosmetic blepharoplasty is unusual in young patients and teenagers. In addition, 3 months may be too soon to consider revision. Only after a comprehensive evaluation can a eyelid plastic surgeon help determine appropriate options for you. Best of luck

Lower Eyelid Still Drooping 6 Months Post-Op, Are These Most Likely the Final Results? (photo)

I am 6 months post op from lower bleph/subperiosteal mid face lift. both eyes had a stitch put in the medial corner and are healing with a rounded droop. i was told (after surgery, not before) to wait a year for complete recovery. is there a chance my eyes will still come up? the right one appears larger when i am not smiling. also have loose skin under the eyes. i had been doing massages but wonder if there is anything more i can do?? is it too late? still have discomfort/swelling in cheeks

A: Lower eyelid swelling after Blepharoplasty and Midface lift

Hi djr,

Thank you for your question. As others have stated, it might be too early to judge final results from your cosmetic surgery. Swelling of the skin and tissue can last a variable amount of time. While most of the healing occurs within the first couple weeks, it may take much longer to the rest of the healing to occur.

Eyelid swelling may improved with gentle massage, eye exercises, ice, and time. Reducing salt intake may also help. Other medical conditions such as allergy or thyroid condition will prolong or exacerbate swelling.

Lastly, based on the photographs alone, you appear to have reasonable results at this time in the healing process and it's difficult to determine a droopy. Only after a comprehensive evaluation can a specialist help determine appropriate options for you. Best of luck.
