I am taking Accutane 40 mg twice a week. Can I have facial laser treatments? This dose was prescribed by my Dermatologist and it has helped to control my adult acne. This low dose has not caused me any side effects. I wish to have Thermage and/or Sciton laser procedures done and want to ensure that I will not have any complications with these procedures.
Accutane and laser treatments are not compatible since it can put you at increased risk for scarring or difficulty healing from the laser treatments.
I think you would have to stop the accutane for 6 months before considering any laser treatments.
Good luck with your treatment.
Hey, Thanks again for all the replies, very informative! Quick question; How long would one have to wait after a 5 month course of accutane to get this procedure done? Thanks, M
We typically treat patients for 20 weeks with Accutane. Although I tell patients to expect clearing by the 10th week, the results vary from person to person. Even people with the most severe cases of cystic acne can see drying and faster resolution of their cysts after as little as 4 weeks of treatment. I advise patients that they will continue to breakout but the cysts resolve faster and are less apt to result in scarring. Accutane continues to be an excellent treatment for papular and cystic acne and prevents scarring on the face, back and chest.
