How Long Does Tummy Tuck Surgery Swelling Last?

I had a tummy tuck about 3 weeks ago.  How long should I expect the swelling to last?

A: Swelling after a Tummy Tuck

The swelling after a tummy tuck resolves slowly over a three months.  If you had liposuction at the same time it may be a  bit longer recovery.  The reason for this is that during a full tummy tuck the skin is lifted off of your muscle and the lymphatic drainage channels  are disrupted. The only way for fluid to drain from the tissues is laterally. The more extensive your tummy tuck or the addition of other procedures such as liposuction the longer the swelling persists.  The body heals slowly over a course of three months, six months and finally one year.  The area above your tummy tuck scar will remain swollen the longest.

Tummy Tuck Scars

Tummy tuck scars - Abdominal scar 4 months after tummy tuckI imagine that you can have tummy tuck scars hidden below your underpants but is this true? can i wear a bikini 1 year after tummy tuck?

A: Hidden tummy tuck scars

Tummy tuck scars are hidden below low cut jeans, bikinis and underwear.  I have my patients bring their favorite bikini bottom to the pre-operative marking session and do my best to keep the scar within the lines of the garment.

C-Section Scar and Tummy Tuck Scar Placement

Will my C-section Scar Be Replaced by a Tummy Tuck Scar or Will I Have 2 Scars? (My c-section scar is at my bikini line.)

A: C-section scar and Tummy Tuck Scar

The tummy tuck almost always removes the C-section scar.  In my practice I excise the C-section scar, and place the tummy tuck scar at or lower than the original scar.  My patients scars are hidden in low cut jeans, lingerie, and bikinis.
