Hi, I have been plagued with Keloids behind my ears following otoplasty 3 years ago. They were symmetrical keloids i.e appeared in the same place on both eears. I have had Steroid Injections, silicone gel and even 3 surgeries(with steroids injections) just to get them removed! My last surgery was 3 weeks ago and the keloids hav returned. I honestly dont know what to do as it seems like I will be stuck with these for life! Please can someone advise me how to proceed further.Thanks.
These scars can be helped with a combination of laser treatment and cortisone injections. It may require multiple treatments, however the success rate is very good. You need to see an expert who has a lot of experience treating scars with laser.
I just lost my job, so I have no insurance and can't afford surgery. My ear got massively infected, and after messing with it too much over the years it has become what I thought was a keloid. After research, I'm guessing it is a hyperthropic scar. People seem to have success (though a lot of pain) by tying a string around it until it turns black and falls off. What are the dangers/risks? Would this work? I'm depressed to the point I cry everyday and ALWAYS hide my ear... I want it gone.
While I understand your desire to treat yourself, you likely will end up with a worse scar from the process you described. That also places you at a higher risk for infection which would definitely end up being an expensive and potentially disfiguring event.
My advice is to wait until you have the means to have this treated by a qualified physician. Perhaps you can check around and see what the costs are in your area. It might be cheaper than you think:)
Good luck!
What is the approximate cost of otoplasty or ear pinning in Los Angeles and Orange County area in California?
Call around to doctors that have worked on your friends and family. See who comes recommended, and then go in for a consultation.
At that point you can consider the costs. There is usually a big variation in fees, so expect a wide range.
Another good rule of thumb is to understand that these procedures cost more in certain parts of the country than in others. For instance, in California and New York, you might pay anywhere from $8000 to $12000 for breast implants, but in less populated areas where the cost of living is lower, such as where I live in Utah, you would normally see fees for a breast augmentation around $4000 to $6000.
