Allergic Reaction to Botox...When Will the Symptoms Go Away???

I received Botox for the second time for my face and 3 days later was covered in hives, a sunburn like itchy burning rash over my torso, neck, chest and hands. The first botox treatment caused no such reaction. My Dr. put me on prednisone for a 10 day treatment. It has now been over 9 days since the botox, 6 days since being on the prednisone, and I am still itchy with hives that come and go. There are no hives on my face where I received the botox. When will this go away!!!

A: Botox reaction

It is very rare to get a reaction from Botox. In fact, I have been treating patients with Botox for 15 years and have not heard of any problems like this from Botox. It is more likely the hives are from something else. You might add an anti-histamine and see a Dermatologist for  a more thorough evaluation.

Average Number of Injections for Botox in Thin Lips?

Is there a way to get Botox injections in my lips without having such oversized lips that it's obvious I've had injections? I have very thin lips and just want a more natural look.

A: Lip injections

It sounds like from your question you are wanting a filler in your lips.Patients often get a bit confused. Botox is for wrinkles of movement and fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm go into the lip.You need to go to an experienced injector and tell them your concerns. Let them know you don't want over sized lips, just some enhancement.

I Think my Botox Injections Didn't Work, Is This Possible?

On Friday, I got 38 units injected into my forehead, crows feet, and area between my eyebrows. It's been over 72 hours and I see no effects. I've had Botox 2 times before. The 1st time I got 45 units and the 2nd time I got 30 units... which I felt was more natural. This time I went to a different doctor (I moved) and she gave me 40 units. I called her and she said to come in on Friday and she'll reinject me, as much as needed. But I'm scared! Why didn't it work?? Can I get 80 units and be OK??

A: Botox did not seem to work

Botox can take 2 to 10 days to work. I would not get any more injections without waiting 10 to 14 days. I usually use 20 units in the frown crease, 20 units for the forehead and 24 units for the crows feet.. So you definitely did not get a lot of units if you had all 3 areas injected. Another thing to ask is do they save their Botox? If so ...how old was the bottle? Botox is it's most potent if mixed the day you receive the injetions.
