Botox - Are the Lines Supposed to Completely Disappear? AND my First Shot Lasted One Month

Thanks in for your time and courtesy on answering my questions. I had my first treatment of Botox for a line that goes across the bridge of my nose (between the eyes). My Dr gave me 2 quick shots of Botox on Dec 2. It is now January 11 and movement has returned in the area. Also, the line I wanted treated never disappeared. It was always there even after the Botox. How long does Botox last? What determines how long it will work for me? Should I be asking my Dr for a specific strength?

A: Static versus dynamic lines-you may need more than Botox

Botox works well on lines that you tend to see more on expression. These are dynamic lines. The lines that are present even when you're not trying to express yourself may not flatten out totally disappear with Botox alone. In the situation you may need to also add a dermal filler such as Juvederm or Perlane to augment the Botox. I usually don't inject both at the same sitting but tend to wait one week between injecting the Botox and injecting the filler. Whoever treated you may not have used an adequate amount of Botox. Patients need to know how many units they are being treated with in order to compare "apples to apples". I charge patients by the unit as do most plastic surgeons versus charging by the area. There are some practitioners who charge by the CC but then the patient doesn't know the concentration and strength of the Botox.

What is the Usual Botox Recovery Time?

How much time should I allow for recovery from Botox injections? What kind of limited activity, etc., can I expect?

A: 3-5 days

Botox usually takes effect within 3-5 days. The results last for three months  in most situations. Younger patients seem to have a longer duration of effect than older patients. By this I mean that the older patients will start to show the wrinkles coming back in the 50-60 days and the younger patients it may be 70-80 days before they start to see the wrinkles coming back.

Are Botox and Restylane Best Used Together?

can you get better skin improvement, wrinkle reduction and anti-aging results by doing more than one injected product like Botox, Restyklane or Juvaderm?

A: Botox and Restylane can work synergistically

The Sales rep would prefer I'm sure, that you use Botox with Juvederm since Allergan sells both. Dysport and Restylane sold by Medicis. In any event I use the products interchangeably as most physicians do, depending on which company is offering rebates and specials. The neuro- toxins(Botox and Dysport)are used primarilyon the upper face and the Dermal fillers(Juvederm,Restylane and Radiesse) are used primarily in the lower face. I do have some patients who have static wrinkles on forehead which means that the wrinkles are present at rest. For those patients, I will often treat first withto smooth out the lines further as necessary.
