Is Lipo Under the Chin and Above the Jaw Safe?

I'm in my early 30's, have always been slim but I have a double chin. Drs have commented on the lack of elasticity on my skin. One Dr says my heavy & thick skin sags faster, creating saggy jowls and double chin. One side of my face is fatter and sags more as well. One Dr suggested lipo, by making two incisions in front of the earlobe area and two incisions under the chin for subcutaneous fat. Drs all claim it's safe and easy. Are there complications or side-effects to consider?

A: Neck lipo

There are possible complications from any surgery. In neck lipo it is possible to cause irregularities by taking more fat from one area as opposed to another, infections can occur, bruising can occur.

Most of the time this type of procedure goes well without problems.

Am I a Better Candidate for Chin Liposuction or Thermage?

I am a 30 yr old woman who is an average weight. Even at my skinniest (size zero) I've always had a double chin but I notice it's bigger when I'm heavier. My doctor advised against liposuction, saying the problem was excess tissue, not fat. Thermage was recommended instead. I'm hesitant to try Thermage because many reviews say it was expensive and didn't work. Judging from the photo I've attached would I be a good candidate for chin liposuction or Thermage? Thanks!

A: lipo or Thermage?

I say lipo-why?

Liposuction has a longer track record, and performed properly can give you an excellent result, assuming that there is fat to be removed and you are a candidate.

Thermage on the other hand, has had very variable results, and in my opinion cannot compare to liposuction.

Best of luck,

Will Weight Loss and Gain After Neck Lipo Affect the Results?

How does weight loss and gain after neck lipo affect the results? For instance, I lose 10-12 pounds during the summer for beach time and during the winter I gain the ten pounds back.

A: Weight fluctuations and body contouring

Significant weight fluctuations after body contouring procedures will "undo" the results. Even if you have not had surgery, weight fluctuations makes skin "age" faster, as the repeated stretching of the dermis damages elastic fibers, and results in less elastic skin. Skin naturally looses elastic properties as you age, so any process that speeds up this occurrence makes you seem to age faster. The main examples are: smoking, sun exposure, and major weight fluctuations.

10 lbs is not a significant amount of weight for most normal sized individuals, so this is a bit of a theoretical discussion. (But if you want to know the details, then yes, it does effect the results.)
