Is V Beam Safe for Ethnic Skin?

Hi, I am 43, suffer from melasma and have tried Triluma, Cosmelan and a Vitamin C serum at different times for it with mixed results.

The first two made the hyperpigmentation worse as I didn't protect my skin adequately afterwards with a high enough SPF. Now I use Kotz total sunblock and wear hats everywhere.

I also have Rosacea and underneath the hyperpigmentation are broken red vessels. I'm considering getting V Beam laser for the redness but am worried about causing more hyperpigmentation issues. What should I do?

A: Pulsed dye lasers are not used in darker skin types

Because melanin (pigment) blocks the transmission of the 595nm wavelength photons from the Vbeam pulsed dye laser, this laser is not used nor effective in darker skin types (types IV, V and VI). If your vessels are sizable, the long pulse Nd:YAG laser can be safely and effectively used in darker skin.

Can V Beam Help Diffused Redness if IPL Didnt Help?

I have had about 8 IPL treatments for pretty bad redness and veins. The IPL helped a lot, mostly with the veins though. I am considering V Beam for the difused redness. I have heard the diffused redness can be easier to treat, but some also said it can be harder to treat than the veins. I am wondering if the IPL hasnt helped the redness, will the V Beam help? I am very scared to have it done, but really want my redness gone! Please help! Thanks for your time.

A: V Beam is the gold standard for small vessels

Yes, the 595nm pulsed dye laser (Candela Vbeam) will be much more effective and safer than intense light treatments. I recommend that you consult with a dermatologist to see if you are a candidate. By the way, it is only used on types 1 to 4 skin.

Will V Beam Help with Acne?

I want to go get V Beam treatments for my redness. I also have some acne that is stubborn. I have heard that V Beam can help acne too. If I get the V Beam for the redness, will it also help my acne? Or do they use it differently for redness than they do for acne? Thanks.

A: Candela's Vbeam clears redness but not acne pustules or comedones

The pulsed dye laser (Candel's Vbeam laser) is great for purpura-free resolution of the redness that accompanies acne (especially adult acne or acne rosacea). The mainstay of acne treatment consists of topical meds to great rid of whiteheads and blackheads and topical and systemic antibacterial agents for the pustules and cysts.
