Is Needing Touch-up of Liposuction a Likely Thing?

I am scheduled for flank & thigh lipo in a few weeks. I was reading another Q&A on here and an answer from a doctor read, "it's not very often a patient needs a touch-up surgery for lipo unless under gen. anesthesia, then they usually need at least 1 or more touch-ups". I was never informed of this. I know there is always a chance for problems etc, but the use of the word "usually" sounds like I should fully expect another surgery and will spend more money... thoughts??

A: How often are touch-ups needed after liposuction?

I think most surgeons strive to remove just the right amount of fat during liposuction and to do so as smoothly and evenly as possible, but it's not alway possible to hit the mark exactly each time for a variety of reasons. Each surgeon knows how often a touch-up is done for his/her patients. It's important to ask before you commit to surgery just how often that surgeon finds it necessary to do a touch-up. An experienced surgeon may have a touch-up rate of 1% to 3%, while a novice surgeon may have a rate of 10%. Don't be shy to ask and discuss this ahead of time.

Although the ideal is to get it exactly right the first time, it's better to under- suction than over-suction. Under-suctioning can be improved by doing a small touch-up, but over-suctioning is very hard to deal with. Have more than one consultation, and remember that experience with liposuction, or any procedure, does make a difference.

How Can I Improve (W/O More Scaring) my Post TT Side Pouches? Do New Treatments Such As Zeltiq Work in my Case? (photo)

Ever since my tummy tuck I have these ridiculous muffin tops. Could a combination of exercise and Zeltiq or other new and non-invasive treatments improve my side contours? I am not interested in an extension surgery and I am trying to avoid a liposuction. The reason I don't think a liposuction is the best solution is because the skin on my back is not as taut and I want to avoid a serious sagging of skin on my love handles after the fat inside is sucked out. Thanks

A: Zeltiq Coolsculpting isn't equivalent to liposuction results

Liposuction is the only predictable, definitive way to reduce localized fat deposits. With one session of liposuction about 85% of the fat in the treated area is removed. With Zeltiq Coolsculpting less than 25% of the fat is reduced with each session. That means that at the next session, again there will be about 25% of the remaining fat removed. There will always be residual fat left with the Zeltiq Coolsculpting process after repeated sessions.

However, it's necessary to have good skin tone, regardless of what option you choose for reducing a localized fat deposit. If your problem is mostly sagging, loose and "empty" skin, then neither liposuction nor Zeltiq Coolsculpting would be a good option for you.

Is It a Good Idea to Get Lipo Before Marriage and Having Children?

I am 23 years old, I have never been married nor I have children. Do you recomend having a liposuction before marriage and having children. Will in the future affect me having children?

A: Having liposuction before having children is just fine

Lipo is a great way to reduce localized areas of fat. It doesn't matter if you haven't had children yet if your skin is in good shape. Regardless of when in your life you might seek liposuction, the best single determinant of a good result is having good skin tone.

Having liposuction before having children will not impact the subsequent pregnancy in any way. So don't wait to enjoy your best shape!
