I have been dealing with a recurring folliculitis problem on the back of the scalp/neck that i am wondering how to treat. it has been ongoing for years (before i started shaving my head) and i believe was brought on my long term use of tetracyclines. it cleared up while on accutane, so my derm wants to do this again. the rest of my skin is clear. if laser treats it, i would much rather go that route. any insight would be appreciated, as im very desperate for a remedy.
If you have pseudofolliculitis barbae (ingrown hairs) laser hair removal would be helpful. It would cause temporary baldness, but after one treatment session, most of the hair would regrow.
After what time can a person wax, tweeze, pluck or use creams if they used laser hair remover only once or had number of treatment, but do not plan to do any treatment in upcoming year ?
Does the same time apply to clinic and in home treatments machine? Thank you.
A professional treated laser hair removal site ordinarily does not require intervention for 30 days. Then, depending on location, some hair will start to grow back. At that time, mechanical (tweezing or waxing) or chemical (depilatory creams) hair removal may be safely done.
I am an otherwise healthy, young male of color that is prone to recurrent folliculitis located along the lateral border of my perineum. It reoccurs almost yearly, for a 3 year period now, and results in an abscess in the same area and pattern. As opposed to most cases I've reviewed, I do not shave the area. I would like to avoid another incsion and drainage, as well as the discomfort associated with the abscess, am considering LHR. Do I sound like a possible candidate, given my 'different' circumstance?
You may be suffering from hidradinitis suppurativa. Hidradinitis is an acne-related condition that occurs in the underarms, groin and perineum. Laser hair removal is an effective additional treatment, along with traditional acne regimens and intralesional steroid injections. For darker skin, the long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser (Lyra-i) is the only safe hair removal laser.
See your dermatologist for diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
