I Was Wondering if There Were Any Cosmetic Procedures That Could Be Done to Lift the Placement of my Ears on my Head?

Looking straight on, the tops of my ears end below my eyes & the lobes end at about where the creases of my mouth are. I know there are corrective surgeries for low set ears, but after researching, i don't think i have that. Also my ears have pretty normal folds and are actually about average size so I don't think it is a problem with them being too small. This is a problem for me because the distance from the top of my ears to my forehead line is great so it looks like I have a big forehead.

A: lifting or changing the location of ears

Minor shifts of ear locations can be done , but unfortunately such movements are limited to a centimeter or less due to the fact that they must remain centered over the ear canal. Obviously the ear canal can not be moved. If you only need a minor shifting then I would recommend getting a consult from a board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck.

Otoplasty Overcorrection

hello i recently had otoplasty surgery my ears seems to be over corrected and dont look normal at all i was wondering once the dissovable stitches come out will they spring out at all? i am very concerned and not happy about them. could u please help!

A: Overcorrection of one's ears is hard to fix if you wait

Sorry to hear of your situation.  In general, once the scar tissue starts to set in in a few months, it will be very hard to correct an overcorrected ear.  Many times the ears relax a little bit over the first few months but in my opinion that is no reason to overcorrect an ear because sometimes it does not relax.  You can always tighten an ear back but it is not easy to release it forward.  It also depends on how much skin was removed.  If too much was removed, then the ear may not completely relax even with release of sutures.  I think it is best to speak with your surgeon about his concerns and if you are going to remove sutures you should not wait a few months because that will probably be too late (with the exception that ears can naturally relax a bit over time.)

hi i am getting ready to get married in september of 2011, i have always been self concious of my protruding ears, i recently went to have a consultation on otoplasty with a local surgeon he took 3 minutes to talk to me and did not answer the questions i had, he especially made me more nervous by tellimg me i cannot have it done now to wait untill august to get the look i want for the wedding because 6 months later my ears would look the same! i am going to waste $6000 for 5 months of happines?

A: Your otoplasty results should be permanent by the right surgeon

I am sorry to hear of your experience with the other doctor.  It sounds very much as if this surgeon does not perform many otoplasties if his experience is that they disappear so quickly.  In my experience, my results are permanent.  In less than 10% of cases I need to go back after a year and do a small degree of tightening but I have not seen an ear go back to where it started.  With the right surgical technique that should not happen.  Always review a surgeon's results in addition to his credentials.
