I Had Restylane Last November, My Dr. Keeps Saying I Need More, Should I Believe Him?

I had restylane the last November. The Dr. told me I only need one syringe -$700. I did not had pain, but after a week, my nasolabial area is looking almost the same as before. I when back to see my doctor and he told I need one more syringe. I am feeling very upset because I don’t know if he is telling me the true or not. I also had it on my on my marionette lines and after that he told me that it doesn’t work there. Now he thinks I should have radiesse. I should get a new doctor???

A: Need for more restylane? Choice of fillers really depends on how deep your lines are. Generally products like Radiesse, Juvedem Plus and Perlane are recommended for deeper lines. Sometimes it is difficult to predict how your lines will respond until the product is actually injected. While your physician may have thought Restylane would be sufficient, he may be recommending Radiesse due to your lack of response. Also if your physician has before and after pictures of your treatment, the improvement may be more evident in a side-by-side comparison. Generally with fillers the more you use the more improvement you will get, though it is possible to overfill. When in doubt you can speak to your physician more or you can seek a second opinion.

Can I Get Restylane if I Already Have Juvederm?

Can I combine fillers in the same area?

A: Combining Restylane and Juvederm

Restylane and Juvederm are both hyaluronic acid, just manufactured by different companies (Medicis and Allergan, respectively).  Restylane was FDA approved in 2003, Juvederm was FDA approved in 2006.  There is no reason why you cannot switch from one to the other.  The products may last different amounts of time once injected, however this can also be influenced by the skill / technique of the injector, the locations being treated and variability from patient to patient.

Good luck.

My response to your question/post does not represent formal medical advice or constitute a doctor patient relationship. You should continue to follow-up with your plastic surgeon in order to receive a formal evaluation and maintain your doctor patient relationship.

Do Hyaluronic Acid Fillers Create a Tightening Effect on Facial Skin?

I’m 28 year old male, and I want my facial skin to look more tighter and youthful. I’ve recently had a consultation with a Dr who has suggested using Restylane or Juvederm (i.e. a HA filler) around the face. From what I understand, fillers volumise the area under the skin. What I don’t understand is, does the HA also boost collagen production (thereby addressing the root of the problem of loosening skin), or would I be better off with RadioFrequency to create that tightening effect I want?

A: Wrinkle fillers can make skin look younger, tighter

Soft tissue fillers certainly can make the face appear more youthful and add volume. Fat injection might be another option for adding the volume you seek.
