Education

Dr. Barrera graduated from medical school in Monterrey, after which he did his general surgery residency at Methodist Hospitals of Dallas.

Post-medical school training

He attended Harvard in Boston and Massachusetts General, and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, where he trained in otolaryngology for three years, 1980-1983. From 1983 to 1985 he did his plastic surgery residency at St. Joseph Hospital in Houston.
