Options to Correct 'Jowl' Appearance? (photo)

Hi, I'm 32, I have this 'jowly' appearance as seen in this photo. Would some kind of mini facelift or other procedure help? What about liposuction? Thanks

A: Options to correct 'jowl' appearance

In your case fillers such as Sculptra could help make 'jowls' less prominent. A face lift can do the same, but in addition improve overall jawline definition and minimize your nasal labial folds which also seem prominent. Best wishes, Dr. H

Help to Remove Facelift Keloids for a "Light Lift"

Sept 2007 I had a Light Lift where the surgeon cut in front and behind my ears and pulled the jaw bones up. This was in Houston. I have moved away from Houston and I have keloids in front and behind my ears and they itch and are sensitive. I have ask two dermatolgist what to do and they don't know. Please help me. Will the lumps just keep getting larger or should I try to find a plastic surgeon

A: Rare to have true keloids after face lift surgery

I take care of numerous revision face lift patients in my practice.  I find that face lift incisions rarely leave true keloids.  If incisions are not closed properly, they do leave hypertrophic scars. In these instances, excision of the scar and removing tension from the incision lines with reclosure solves the problem.  If there is truly a keloid, then other options exists including steroid injections with re-excision all the way to radiation therapy (something I do not recommend).

Mini Facelift Vs. Full Facelift: Which is Best?

A mini lift sounds sooo much more appealing to me.  less expensive...less invasive...can get rid of my sagging skin and jowls. why would i opt to get full facelift surgery?

A: Tailor-made facelifts

It's important to discuss with your plastic surgeon what your goals are. These include not only what kind of result you're looking for but also how much down time you can afford. It's also important that you deal with a plastic surgeon who's experienced in treating different types of problems.

When I was a resident in the early 80s, there was basically one type of face-lift. Patients came in for a consultation and my professors would either say you're ready for facelift or come back later. We now see younger patients who are looking for little nips and tucks. Over the years, more extensive facelifts as well is less invasive facelifts have developed.

Most patients are women and there are many more now in the workforce. Some cannot afford 1-2 week "down time" with the traditional facelifts and will settle for a less complete results with a faster recovery time. There are other patients who don't need a full facelift. Some may need a little liposuction and a little lift along the jawline.

With the advent of dermal fillers, we can add volume to the tissue which plumps the face up, as well as camouflages the skin laxity. Some patients need a multi-level approach with both surgical and nonsurgical procedures, including laser skin resurfacing.

Discuss the different treatment options with your plastic surgeon, to find out what's best for you.
