What Are My Options For A Lip Reduction?

I've been wanting to make my lips stop protruding out for a long time, and my dentist says that if I remove 4 teeth (ouch) and get braces, my mouth will go in and my mouth protrudes because of my jaw. But when I poke it, it feels like there's just a lot of lip fat or tissue or something, and I was wondering if a lip reduction could help me? I want the lips to not stick out for a side profile, but could I get that done without really decreasing the size of the red part of my lips?

A: Lip Reduction Considerations

A lip reduction could be just what you need.  But be be aware of the causes of your lip protrusion. If the cause can be corrected, such as protruding teeth, you might want to consider addressing that first.

There are several factors influencing lip protrusion..These would be your age, ethnicity, genetics and tooth position. Lips are thicker when you are young and get thinner as you age, the pink part (vermilion) becomes more rolled in and appears to become thinner over time as well.  Many dark skinned people have thicker lips as we all know.  The lips are supported to a large degree by the teeth; a toothless person will have sunken in lips; a buck toothed person will have overly thinned lips that may not close completely.

The part of the lip that is reduced is just behind the point where the lips touch each other.  This should not result in reduction of the vermilion.

Good luck.

Uneven Lower Lip Due to Scar Tissue on Inside, What are My Options? (photo)

I fell 14 years ago and bit through my lower lip. I am left with what I THINK is scar tissue on the lower wet part of the lip. This creates a bulge on the outside and my lip looks uneven. If I get the scar tissue removed, will this help with the uneven-ness? Could surgery make it worse? What is the procedure for something like this? Thank you in advance!

A: Scar tissue of lower lip after fall causing unevenness

It is hard to judge what the inside of your lip looks like on these pics.  But, based on the pics, I would start of with a little dermabrasion for the scar on the chin area of the external lip and possibly some kenalog injections into the lip to reduce the bulkiness of that area.  Just some thoughts...

Small, Thin Lips

My lips are very thin, and my top lip is almost nonexistent. My top lip is also rather pointed at the top, and seems to curl under on one side too. What would be the best way to plump my lips up and give them a more feminine, rounded appearance?

A: Filler can balance lip asymmetry

Your lips are very well-shaped, and the upper and lower lip are well-balanced.  You have a nice cupid's bow shape to your upper lip - a sign of youth.  Your lateral left upper lip is smaller than your right and this asymmetry could be corrected with a filler such as juvederm.
