My Perioral Dermatitis is not inflamed at the moment, but I have to be very careful with any products/medications that I apply to my chin. I have brown spots on my face and I am thinking about having IPL treatments. My chin is almost always red and I thought it might take some of the redness out.
Perioral dermatitis is viewed as a variant of rosacea. IPL is commonly performed for treatment of redness associated with rosacea without problems. So I believe it would be safe to undergo IPL if you have stable perioral dermatitis. You may see reduction of the redness of your chin and it should reduce your hyperpigmentation as well. Since you do have these skin issues I would recommend having your IPL performed at a board-certified dermatologist's office in order to gain the most effective management for both your cosmetic and medical concerns.
I had ipl for sunspots on face hands and arms 11 days age. Test patches caused coffee grinds but treatment has just caused mild darkening of patches. Facial patches feel very dry. Is treatment working
This sounds like an appropriate healing response to an IPL. Darker brown spots will often produce the coffee ground appearance, but lighter and medium brown spots often don't and will just show gradually lightening over the next month. While you are healing it may be tempting to want to exfoliate or pick at the coffee grounds, but do not manipulate your healing skin. The best skin care regimen while healing from an IPL is to use a gentle cleanser and bland moisturizer. The coffee grounds will resolve on their own. For the best results from an IPL, usually 3-4 treatments will be needed at monthly intervals.
The doctor recomended 5 treatments spaced 3-4wks apart; I have had 2 and will start the 3rd soon. He told me to stop using Metrogel while IPL is curently ongoing so it won't interfere with treatmnt results. I've stopped using Metrogel 1%, however I think I should still use it in conjunction with the IPL so results will be & look better once treatments have ended. Which option(s) would be best & who is correct-the doctor or myself? Also, why does my face re-flare one week after a treatmt?
Metrogel and Metrocream should not interact with the use of a laser or light source especially if the cream is applied after the laser treatment. As always, it is recommended to follow the advice of the treating physician as each patient's condition is unique and treatment regimens are tailored to their individual needs.
