Should I See Results 6 Days After Chin Lipo?

I am 6 days post chin/jaw lipo and I see no difference. Actually it maybe even looks a little worse. Based on my pictures, do you think this is just swelling? At a minimum, I'm wanting that little triangle of fat behind where my chin starts to curve down into my neck to disappear. I'm worried because it's been almost a week and I still see no difference.

A: 1 week post neck liposuction with no results

The best time to view a liposuction result is the first day postop or after 6 weeks postop.      Significant swelling and edema are very common after liposuction procedures, even with the best compression devices and the most aggressive massage techniques.   Our goal as patient and surgeon is to minimize the swelling as it occurs.

We give our patients herbal supplements to decrease their bruising and swelling when necessary.   We also involve a massage therapist or physical medicine and rehabilitation Medical Doctor from a very early stage.

Bottomline, you are going through the normal stages of liposuction healing.   Please continue to followup with your board certified plastic surgeon and follow instructions.     Your result will be patiently awaiting you in 6 weeks :)))

Am I a Chin Lipo Candidate? (Photos)

I live in S. Louisiana and want to improve my chin area. I am 42 & of ideal wt. Is there any way to improve my profile other than a necklift/facelift? I've had a couple of consults & have been rec'd everything from Ultherapy to smartlipo (with chin implant) to a mini or full facelift. I'd really like to consider the lipo option but am worried about saggy skin. I have no problem with the mini facelift option other than the quote seems disproportionate to my needs. Advice? Thanks!

A: Chin area improvement

Thank you for sharing your photos.   I see several patients similar to you in my office.   Based on your photos, you have a retrusive chin and a mild to moderate platysmal band.   You have fairly decent skin quality and minimal fatty tissue.

In my hands, I would recommend a midline platysmaplasty (necklift) with chin (implant) augmentation.  I believe that this would give nice definition to your jawline and correct the platysmal banding seen of profile view   Based on your photos, you appear too young for a formal face or necklift, which involves scars around the ear.     The midline platsymaplasty and chin augmentation involves only a 1 inch incision under the chin.   Recovery time in about 1 week off from work, where a garment will be worn full time..   Swelling and bruising can take 2-3 weeks to fully resolve, but easily concealed by mineral based makeups.

I wish you a safe and happy recovery.

Concerns with Chin Liposuction

I am 29, athletic, but have always had untoned skin and fat under my chin and around my jawline and am considering smart lipo. I am very concerned about bad skin tone and ropy/uneven appearance since its my face!

What type/grade of machine should I be looking for in a doctor's office to ensure best results? Also any suggestions on areas of the jaw/chin/jowls I should include? I don't want to overdo it, but mostly feel I don't have the info I need to self-advocate during consultation. Thx!

A: Tumescent Liposuction

Chin liposuction, also called submental liposuction, is a very common procedure. We recommend traditional liposuction using tumescent fluid. This helps to provide an even countour and lessens the chance of bruising. The results are permanent because we do remove the fat. It is also very important to follow post-operative instructions by wearing your chin garment faithfully for at least 2 weeks, sometimes even longer. The younger you are the better results you will get with liposuction because the skin has more elasticity. It seems to me that you would be a great candidate for chin liposuction.
