I just started using Retin-A, 0.0025% four days ago. Is it normal for it to burn sting when i put the gel on and my face is very dry skin is flakin off and I have big red patches around mouth and cheeks thanks
There are a number of things that may be causing your irritation. Retin-A may cause irritation in some patients, and the gel carrier that the medication is suspended in may also be contributing. Furthermore, using other products along with Retin-A may increase the likelihood of irritation. I recommend that you consult your prescribing dermatologist, bringing along all topical preparations (soaps, moisturizers, toners, etc) to determine the most likely cause.
Can I Use Retin-A Every Night?
Retin-A, and its related topical medications called retinoids, are best used on a regular basis. Some, to enhance tolerability, may use it every other day, but, in general, it is for once daily use to achieve optimal results. It is not, however, effective as a spot treatment, so regualr use is necessary. Some retinoids are photostable, meaning they can be used with good efficacy during the daytime, if you need some flexibility in using the medication. You should check with your dermatologist to see which preparation you currently have.
How Soon Can I Use Retin-A on my Nose After Having Open Rhinoplasty and Nasal Tip Plasty?
Because of the irritation from scrub solutions, adhesives, taping, and possibly incisions, I would wait several weeks before resuming the Retin A treatments, it might also be prudent to start with every two to three day treatments; then gradually increasing the treatments. I would also check with your nasal surgeon.
