Am I Evaluating Mixto SX Fractional Laser Results Too Soon?

I did my first Mixto SX Fractional Laser treatment about 12 days ago. Though my doctor did take my pics before treatment, I did not take any for my own review.

Until now, I could not see much improvement which results in great disappointment. Is it too earlier to judge the laser effects? Or how long should I take after the treatment to review the overall results? Is this laser suitable for ice-pick or depression scars?

I am upset totally as I do not expect much improvement with the money I spent and those raves of this treatment.

A: Mixto Laser for acne scarring may take several treatments

Greetings Loacker,

For true ice pick scars, I like to perform some type of subcision followed by laser resurfacing for best results. With any type of acne scarring though, I agree with Dr. Berkowitz that any one treatment will only get 30-50% improvement. Several treatments are necessary and I space them out at least 3 months apart because as some of the other physicians point out, there is some degree of collagen reformation which improves the results with time. All in all, don't evaluate your results quite yet, there may still be some improvement to come.

Is MiXto Laser As Good As Fraxel Repair?

I'm a 35-year-old Asian, and I have acne scars and pigmentation all over my face. I'm wondering, is MiXto Laser as good as Fraxel Repair? Or is it better compared to other laser treatments?

A: Mixto is a good option for acne scars

The fractional carbon dioxide technology behind both the Mixto and Fraxel re:pair systems is a good choice for acne scars. Unfortunately acne scars are a very difficult problem and getting a 50% improvement in your skin texture would be an excellent result (most patients will get 25-50% improvement). Expect it to take several treatments to get the best results possible ni patients with signficicant acne scars.

Chemical Peel for Pigmentation After Mixto Laser?

Four weeks after Mixto laser treatment, my cheeks are still pigmented. The pigmentation appears like the lines on the areas treated with the high set energy of the laser. The doctor looks confused and says it takes months to disapear.

The process of healing was all normal, no problems. But now my skin never went back to normal before laser. He wants to speed the process of "turning to the normal colours" with chemical peel because I cannot leave the house without makeup on my cheeks. Will it help with the pigmentation?

A: My first step is bleaching agents or steroid creams

Greetings Zaneta,

I use the Mixto system in my practice. Pigment irregularities after laser resurfacing can occur and will often resolve with time. In my practice, I avoid any type of skin resurfacing procedure for at least three months after laser treatment. For patients who suffer from hyperpigmentation I prefer to use bleaching creams and sometimes steroid creams to correct he problem. Should it persist longer them 3-6 months, I think a medium depth peel such as 35% TCA would be a reasonable suggestion.
