The pictures make the results look pretty similar. What are the differences in operation?
You can try to keep things separate by discussing the lower face (from the cheekbone to the jawline) and the neck (from the jawline to the clavicle), but they are closely related. If a patient only has muscle bands in the neck with minimal skin laxity, it is possible to do a truly isolated neck lift (by tightening the muscles, and allowing the skin to re-distribute)--but most of the time patients also have significant skin laxity. When you need to remove excess skin from the neck, a scar will be placed in-front of the ear (to avoid "bunching" of the skin infront of the ear), and that means the cheek has been undermined. Because of this, the neck operation has crossed-over into the lower face, and you might as well address the jawline. It is important to discuss your desired outcomes with your surgeon, and listen to how they plan to achieve your goals - it should make sense. How the operation is named is a bit superfluous.

Due to 30lb weight loss I have sagging in the marionette line area. Its not too bad but it bothers me that I look sad. I talked to a plastic surgeon about a lower lift. He said this would also help my jaw line. What would this entail. Is the recuperation difficult. I am 48. Would juvederm help to hold off the surgery for awhile? Can it help the neck? I have already had my eyes done and rhinoplasty so surgery isn't new to me.
The plastic surgeon I am considering for a lower facelift and neck lift indicates he uses a rolling sutures around the ear and behind the tragus. Is this the typical way sutures are done for same surgery, or isn't it? Or are the fine, tiny sutures some doctors do, produce a more invisible suture line? This piece of the surgery is extremely important to me. I need to find out of this is the norm. Thanks
The most important part of the facelift is how the muscles are tightened under the skin, where the incisions are placed and how the skin is re-draped. I use small 5-0 and 6-0 nylon suture to close the top of the skin, These sutures are on top of several buried absorbable sutures which remove the tension. The nylon sutures are removed in several days. Good luck with your surgery.
