What Treatments Will Address Red Scars After Shaving Moles?
Hello, About three months ago I had a couple moles removed from my stomach via the shaving method (i.e., no stitches). I'm hoping to minimize the current redness as best as possible before summer comes and I'm at the beach. I'm guessing it's too soon to resort to excising the scars, so I'm wondering what some good workarounds might be (laser treatment/s?). I'll be visiting my dermatologist for an opinion, but I'm interested in your thoughts, too. Thanks,
A: Redness after biopsyI have also treated these with good results with IPL; and I often combine this treatment with Retin-A or a similar cream. It can take up to a year for a scar to achieve its final appearance (which often results in a white flat scar); however, at this point, results from any intervention at that point are less effective, if at all. I agree with seeing your dermatologist to evaluate the quality and size of your scar and to see which interventions would be most appropriate for you.
Should I Shave or Cut out an Intradermal Nevus Between my Lip and my Nose? (photo)
It's just under 1/4 inch wide, flesh colored and been there for 25 years. Several surgeons say cut it out, other surgeons say shave because of where it is and because it might dog-ear. What if it grows back? What a mess that will be - first a shave, then a cut.
A: Mole removalI would first be aware that no matter what you do, you are likely to leave a scar. Be absolutely sure that you will be okay with a scar vs the mole.
To patients facing this same dilemma, I often recommend shave removal. If you are less than pleased with the round scar and/or it grows back, there is nothing holding you back from an excision at that point. It can take up to a year before the final scar appearance becomes apparent. Still, many are pleased with the shave in the first place. It is a quick and relatively procedure that doesn't require stitches and doesn't change our options for the future should you change your mind. Just be sure to go with someone who is very comfortable with whatever you choose.

How to Get Rid of my Skin Redness from Seborrheic Dermatitis? (photo)
Medicated creams do not work. Have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis , dandruff shampoo does not work. Looking for some kind of FOR SURE fix if you work in Florida and know what will work tell me how much and I will travel to you! - My skin is sometimes flaky but mostly RED. Gets worse when I am hot, stressed and exerted. Got this when I was years old. I do not drink, do drugs and a healthy diet also does not help. Anyone willing to guarantee a treatment ?
A: Treating facial rednessA number of things could be causing your redness besides seb derm; I suspect rosacea; however, other things like contact dermatitis or even lupus can do this. I would recommend that you get a second opinion by a dermatologist who can evaluate and diagnose you in person--photographs are no substitute for physical presence--to determine exactly what is causing your symptoms and prescribe appropriate treatment. I can see that you are very frustrated. There are options out there for you to alleviate your symptoms, but appropriate diagnosis is key to choosing the best one.
