My Front Teeth Are Getting Thin from the Bottom Teeth Wearing Away the Back Side.what Can I Do Other Than Implants.
Of course, without seeing you as a patient I would be hesitant to suggest treatment - but for my patients, extractions and implants are a last resort. I would suggest that you have a comprehensive exam and x-rays to see if crowns or veneers would replace your worn teeth. The roots may be in great shape and saving these teeth would be the best 1st option.
The causes of extreme wear needs to be addressed as well - as the cause is almost always part of the solution.
the NY TImes article "A Dental Shift: Implants Instead of Bridges" states: "In an overwhelming majority of cases, implants to replace lost teeth are by far the best long-term solution for maintaining a healthy mouth. Also, because they rarely need to be replaced, in the long run they are more economical than bridges." Do you agree with this statement?
Yes dental implants are superior to bridges. Bridges had a strong place in the past, but today dental implants are the most advanced and conservative option for replacing missing teeth. I tell patients missing single teeth that dental implants are a "single tooth solution to a single tooth problem" meaning when you have one tooth missing implants won't involve the teeth surrounding the missing tooth. Bridges require the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth to be reduced down even if they have no current problems to hold the bridge, but dental implants do not since they stand alone to hold the implant crown. Dental implants are affordable and less expensive over the course of years giving you many advantages over bridges.
I need to get a tooth implant. I also need braces. Which should be done first? Or does it matter? Appreciate your help, I am "so confused".
In most cases braces are at least mostly completed before implant placement. If the orthodontic treatment is nearing completion and a patient needs a posterior implant, then I will sometimes have the patient get the implant placed so healing can begin as the braces are getting ready to be removed, but that would require an ideal position with no further movement needed in the impant area. It is not a good idea to have an impant placed an then try to move teeth around it. You always treatment plan these cases with the end in mind prior to beginning them so everyone knows exactly what you are trying to end up with.
