How Can I Trust Bad Reviews from Patients of a Top Certified Rhinoplasty Surgeon?

I been looking for a facial surgeon with an extensive experience on the field and good credentials to get a rhinoplasty. I finally found one and i thought he would be the one, but all the reviews from his actual patients say they are very unhappy with the results and regret having the surgery done by him and they even say he ruined their lives because he would not face his mistake! How can i really know this will not turn out to be a nightmare if i trust in him?

A: Can bad reviews be trusted?

Tough question. I would have to agree with my colleagues as to the fact that most unsatisfied patients usually have unrealistic expectations to start. What concerns me, however, is that you state "all his reviews" are negative. If this is true, then I can understand your reservations. I always advise my patients to 'do their homework' and research the best possible option for THEM. Go see him/her, look at his/her work and maybe ask to speak to some of his/her patients to get a clearer picture of the truth. Best to be well informed now than regret later.  Best wishes, Dr. H

Simulated Nose Versus Real Nose?

Does a good surgeon have the ability to achieve exactly the same nose look as that chosen on a rhinoplasty computer simulator? How reliable is a rhinoplasty simulator for surgery guidance?

A: Computer imaging not always realistic

Great question. Although impressive and seemingly 'high tech', computer imaging is only a tool to communicate options available to you. It does not and cannot guarantee results. Best to see before and after pictures to best evaluate expertise of PS. Best wishes, Dr. H

Getting Nasal Spine Removed, Should id Not be Messed with? (photo)

What percentage of people have to get some or all of their nasal spine removed? I had a consultation with one of the top Texas plastic surgeons and he said he doesn't like to mess with removing that bone because it can cause drooping of the nose later on. I had 2/3 say leave nasal spine and one say go after it. I need drastic results since I may not get a chin implant, so I'm not sure what to do..Also, what percentage of people have some nostril/alar base cut out?

A: Partial nasal spine removal beneficial when indicated

It appears that you may be a good candidate for partial nasal spine removal. Drooping may occur if septum is not anchored properly. I actually drill a hole through the base of the nasal spine to permanently secure septum to ensure a solid/stable structure. Again, if indicated, your nostrils can also be reduced. I hope this helps, Dr. H
