Will Hot Compresses Breakdown Fatty Tissue Under Eyelids?

My Dr tells me I have excess fatty tissue under my eyelids. He said to use hot compresses to breakdown this fatty tissue. Everything I have read in my research says the only way to deal with this is surgery. He never mentioned surgery. I don't know what to do and could use some more information.

A: Hot compresses will not break down fatty tissue

I'm afraid it's time to find another doctor. Not only will this 'solution' not help, but could potentially be harmful! Your research has served you well, surgery correction is your only viable option. Good work! Dr. H

Are Visual Field Test Results Transferable Between Different Doctor's Offices?

5 months ago I went to my opthamologist. I had visual field testing, photos--taped and untaped. I also have ptosis of one eye. I received BCBS ppo pre-approval for upper blepharoplasty. I decided to use an ocular plastic surgeon. My opthamologist gave me my tests w/photos. I will pay for lower blepharoplasty. One Ocular Plastic Surgeon office says they can not use the reports from the other doctor and I must redo testing. My insurance is BCBS ppo. Any insight would be appreciated.

A: Visual field tests are transferable

I would be very suspicious if the surgeon you have chosen to do your blepharoplasty insists on a new test provided by him. Call your insurance carrier and ask if this is really necessary. If not, you have the right to refuse and seek someone who is not involved in unethical practices.

Best of luck,

Dr. H

Dissapointed in Answers from Surgeon - How to Find the Best Plastic Surgeon for a Man?

My husband is almost 40 and has very deep set eyes & is experiencing sagging eye lids, deep and numerous lines in his brow and eye area. Had a "consult" with MD, was told that a brow lift was out of the question as it would make him look too effeminate. A very slight bleph was possible, but he had to talk him into that. He basically acted as if the only option for men was Botox. This is becoming costly. My husband is disappointed & feels hopeless. Is this true? This is my MD, so I am angry.

A: Don't get angry, get a second opinion

Judging from the description of your husband, he would benefit from a brow lift. This procedure would take care of the 'deep creases' in his brow and would improve his saggy upper lids. Deep set eyes can be improved by repositioning the fat around them with a revised blepharoplasty. These procedures need to be customized to your husband's specific needs. Asking to view before and after pictures should give you an idea of surgeon's expertise and level of comfort dealing with complex cases.  Best wishes, Dr. H
