I thought Perlane was supposed to last longer than other non-permanent wrinkles fillers, but a lot of the Perlane reviews on this site say that it didn't last very long. How long is Perlane supposed to last?
What I tell all my patients is that all the hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus) last 4-6 months based on studies when no touch-up treatments are given. However, it is very common for the bulkier fillers such as Perlane and Juvederm Ultra Plus can last much longer up to a year or longer. However, it is dependent on several factors such as where the filler is being placed (areas of more movement such as the lips cause the product to degrade faster) and on each individual's personal metabolism of the product.
I hope this answer was helpful.
I had Perlane injected in corners of mouth and bruising and swelling appeared inches away from injection site on bottom of chin and jowl that day and has gotten larger 2 days later. is this normal? is there anything i can do?
Bruising after Perlane, or any injectable, is quite common. The needle is likely to nick small capillaries in or under the skin and cause a little bleeding. The bruising under the skin takes a few days to make its way to the surface, thus the delay that you saw. Due to gravity, the bruising flows downhill. The best way to prevent the bruising is to avoid aspirin and ibuprofen for two weeks prior and apply ice immediately after the injection. At this point, warm moist compresses may be helpful. Make-up camouflage is perhaps your best bet until the bruising disappears.
From what I understand, Perlane and Restylane are made by the same company and do basically the same thing...so, what's the difference and why is Restylane so much more popular and talked about compared to Perlane? When is Perlane a better choice over Restylane?
Perlane and Restylane are both hyaluronic acids fillers made by Medicis. Perlane is more highly cross-linked than Restylane and so is thicker to inject and is better injected through a larger needle. Physicians differ in their use of the products, but in a nutshell, Restylane is for more superficial lines and wrinkles and lip augmentation (although I'm sure some use Perlane for this) and Perlane is better for deeper folds such as the smile lines and puppet lines (marionette lines). Perlane may last a little longer than Restylane, but this is not proven. As for why you hear more about Restylane it was approved by the FDA first and so it is a branded well recognized product. The company just needs to drive business to the injectors and then let the injector take it from there. Better to drive one brand name then spend half the money driving two.
