Should I Consider Non-surgical Rhinoplasty?

I know I might seem young, being only 17 and wanting to change the way my nose looks, but I've never been happy with it, I feel that it makes me ugly and insecure. So I've actually been considering a nose job, but I could never afford something like that, and I've been looking at non-surgical rhinoplasty, and the results are amazing! I just don't know if it's for me?

A: Non surgical rhinoplasty is generally best for those who need a larger nose

Hi there,

You are precient to seek out non-surgical options for making cosmetic changes.  In general the revolution of minimally invasive techniques has been a quantum leap forward in our ability to help patients achieve their cosmetic goals.

The deal with non-surgical rhinoplasty is that it involves injecting a filler to change the shape of the nose.  It can smooth out contours and create form.  Now these fillers do their work by ADDING volume to the nose.  People who have ill-defined nasal tips or poorly defined nasal bridges are the best candidates for this technique.

In your situation, you have a pretty face (which is a great place to start!), but you are right to notice that from a pure aesthetic perspective, your nose is slightly out of proportion to the rest of your face.  You have tip ptosis ( a droopy nasal tip) as well as a wide and raised nasal dorsum (bridge).  These are situations that are not amenable to filling as an option for rhinoplasty. Unfortunately, the only way to address these issues is with traditional rhinoplasty surgery.

You are quite young at 17, and your nose is still changing.  My advice for you: enjoy your natural beauty and punt this rhinoplasty option into the future.  Work hard in school and land a nice lucrative job so that you can reward yourself in your 20s with the nose that you've always wanted.

Best of luck to you.

Am I a Candidate for Non Surgical Rhinoplasty?

I don't know exactly what is wrong with it I just feel it looks awkward. Please help me and let me know if nonsurgical rhinoplasty is an option. I think my main concern is the bump and the fact that it droops a bit at the tip especially when I smile.

A: Unfortunately, non surgical rhinoplasty is not your best option

Hi Nicole,

Non surgical rhinoplasty is best for those who have a relatively small nose for their face, as the technique involves adding volume to the nose to improve shape and contour.

Certainly, your "bump" (dorsal hump) and "droopy tip" (tip ptosis) could improved with non surgical rhinoplasty- however the overall effect will be to make your entire nose look bigger.  You have delicate facial features and a small feminine face.  The additional volume of non surgical rhinoplasty will make your nose stand out in disproportion.

Surgical rhinoplasty is generally a "subtractive" surgery, where volume is generally reduced from your nose.  An ideal surgical plan for your nose would be to reduce the size of the dorsal hump, and reduce your tip ptosis with some cartilage manipulation and support.

Finally, you look quite young, and it is important to recognize that cosmetic surgery is best done after the age of 18 when you are fully capable of making adult decisions.  Equally important is the fact that the nose and face continue to develop until the age of 20 or beyond, and ideally facial cosmetic surgery should be delayed until one is in her/his 20s.

Good luck to you!

Non Surgical Nose Job - How Long Do the Results Last?

I am trying to decide if I should get a non surgical nose job or just bite the bullet and have a rhinoplasty. If I have to keep getting the non surgical nose job re-done every few months, I don't think it would be worth it because I'd end up paying just as much as I would for a rhinoplasty over time.
Does anyone know how long the results last for a non surgical nose job? Also, what if I don't like the results...can they be reversed?

Thanks.

A: Filler Injections are a great alternative for the right patient

Surgical rhinoplasty can achieve fantastic results for the right patient (usually patients that need a smaller nose). Non-surgical filler injection into the nose can also produce fantastic results for the right patient (usually patients that need a bigger nose).

In my experience, filler injections can be quite long-lasting in the nose.  I'm surprised to see other surgeons post nasal filler expectancy of a few months.  Since there is very little movement of muscles in the nose, the hyaluronic acid gel filler (restyalane, juvederm, etc.) can last much longer than in other parts of the face.  I have seen two year or more longevity in the nose for my patients with the usual hyaluronic acid fillers.  Silicone is controversial, but very effective, in the nose, and can be permanent.

Get a few opinions, then make a decision and enjoy!  Good luck!
