I am a 50 year old female in excellent health. Recently I decided to look for a surgeon to perform a mini face/neck lift with fat transfer. My surgeon will also perform a myectomy of the lateral orbicularis. To save on the operating room cost he has suggested we do it in his procedure room. All searches indicate no more than 2 hours under a local for these types of procedures. My doctor said the time frame will be just over 5 hours. Can a patient withstand this time frame under local?
In general, twilight anesthesia (local anesthesia with sedation) can be safely used for procedures lasting 5 hours. This includes facial, breast, and body procedures. On the other hand, you may have quite a problem being comfortable for that period of time with just local anesthesia and no sedation. It isn't necessarily unsafe, but you will probably want to get up and leave before too long! Real surgery requires real anesthesia - don't skimp just because it's cheaper.
Sept 2007 I had a Light Lift where the surgeon cut in front and behind my ears and pulled the jaw bones up. This was in Houston. I have moved away from Houston and I have keloids in front and behind my ears and they itch and are sensitive. I have ask two dermatolgist what to do and they don't know. Please help me. Will the lumps just keep getting larger or should I try to find a plastic surgeon
Thick scars after a facelift are not common. Thick scars or keloids may occur after surgery if the skin is overly bruised or overly tight, if you have a reaction to the stitches, if the skin edges were burned, or if you have an inherited tendency for such scars. The itching indicates that the scars are still active. There are a variety of surgical and non-surgical techniques that may help you. You need to see an experienced plastic surgeon who can examine you and recommend the best treatment.
What do you think of the lifestyle lift or, for that matter, any minilift, if a person does not require a complete facelift? Is it lasting, and where are the incisions made? How long is the usual recovery time? Many thanks for your opinion.
Generally, a mini facelift is one that uses shorter scars and less is done under the skin - thus less improvement. For the right patient, this is a wonderful operation. A facelift must consider correction of excess skin, loose muscle, and excess/deficient/shifting fat. The scars for a minilift are limited around the ear. You can expect a little swelling and bruising for up to 2-3 weeks depending upon what is actually required, but may be able to camouflage the areas with make-up and your hair. Since less is done compared to a full facelift, your recovery will be much faster. The improvement should last 5-10 years.
