Is Needing Touch-up of Liposuction a Likely Thing?

I am scheduled for flank & thigh lipo in a few weeks. I was reading another Q&A on here and an answer from a doctor read, "it's not very often a patient needs a touch-up surgery for lipo unless under gen. anesthesia, then they usually need at least 1 or more touch-ups". I was never informed of this. I know there is always a chance for problems etc, but the use of the word "usually" sounds like I should fully expect another surgery and will spend more money... thoughts??

A: Touchups and liposuction.

Needing a touchup is always a possibility but never an expectation.  If your plastic surgeon thinks your problem can be managed with liposuction then it’s likely you will be just fine.  Remember that perfect results are not possible, but most reasonable patients will be thrilled with the improvement that liposuction can have to the thigh area.  Best of Luck, Dr. Kerr

Why Is This Case an 'Accidental Death' when Using Liposuction?

intra abdominal hemorrhaging due to perforated aorta; how does this end up happening? i read about this happening to a woman going in for a BBL by a board certififed plastic surgeon. And how often does this happen? why is this also "tagged" as an accidental death? Thanks for al your answers

A: Liposuction accidental death

When patients research procedures thoroughly as you have, they will find out that surgery is certainly not perfect and complications can happen even in well trained hands (as was the case there in San Antonio).  That particular case troubled everyone in this community and our hearts went out sincerely to everyone involved.  What a tragedy!  But, the death was certainly not intentional and, therefore, labeled an accident.  Most board certified plastic surgeons are fortunate to go through life without something like this happening, but we are all very aware of the care we must use in handling liposuction cannulas and keeping our patients as safe in our procedures as possible.  I assure you, this particular event is exceptionally rare.  If you or a family member entertain the idea of having a cosmetic procedure performed, please have a thorough conversation with a plastic surgeon who can give you the complete scope of risks.  Hopefully, this conversation will end up being more reassuring than anything.  Believe me, our prime concern is keeping patients safe and well served by our procedures.  Thank you for your thoughtful questions!

Does Less Fat Removed Means Faster Recovery? When Will I See The Final Result?

I had about 650cc removed about a 5 days ago from my flanks - aka love handels, and i was woundering how long will it take for me to see the full results? im in my early 30's, good health.

A: Liposuction recovery and time to see full result

Thank you for the question.  Indeed, 650cc of fat is not a large volume.  I don't know that removing smaller volumes of fat necessarily means you recover faster because the tissue is still subjected to the wetting or tumescent fluid we pump in and it is still somewhat traumatized from the liposuction cannulas.  It does, however, make sense to me that folks getting large volume liposuction and multiple body areas may certainly be prone to longer recoveries than the norm.  It will still take you 3-6 months to be able to see most of the result and I still feel that some people can see slight improvement for as long as a year or so.  I am a firm believer that compression garments help shape and minimize swelling, so be compliant in using them if your surgeon ordered you to.  I actually keep my patients in some type of compression (even if it is just light Spanx) for 2 months.  The compression might help speed your result slightly.  Good luck with everything and enjoy your result!
