If I were to get this procedure done, will I need to get it done again in the future? How long do the results for this procedure last for?
- Botox blocks communication between your brain and the facial muscles so they move less (or not at all). It is not permanent.
- Fillers are substances that take up space (thus adding volume). Many of the finer fillers used for lips like Hyaluronic acid (e.g. Restylane, Juvederm) last about 6-9 mo and generally go away faster in areas with greater facial motion.
- Permanent fillers exist, such as silicone and sometimes fat, however I caution their use, especially in the lips. Sometimes a permanent change is not best, especially considering if you do not like the result, or your tastes change over time.
I used 1/2 of syringe of Perlane yesterday (used Restylane before) and immediately swelled up. Yet the swelling got a lot worse as the time passed. Now it's the next day and I am really freaking out; my lip is so swollen and can hardly talk and it's almost touching my nose! When will this go down? I have to work tomorrow, and I work at a MedSpa. I can't look like this! Is there anything I can take besides Ibuprofren to make this swelling go down quicker? PLEASE HELP!
Some swelling after Perlane is normal. Most women find that the swelling has subsided considerably within 3 days. Applying ice immediately afterwards will minimize the swelling. Severe swelling may be due to bleeding (bruising) or a reaction to the injectable. You should contact your doctor and let him evaluate you immediately.
