Facelift Recovery

Thinking about a facelift, but concerned about taking time off work. When can I go in public without looking like a freak (or like I just had facelift surgery!)?

A: Downtime after a facelift...

It takes several weeks for the residual swelling and bruising to clear in some facelift patients.  Each patient is different, but at my Austin, Texas area plastic surgery practice I usually recommend that patients take about 2 weeks off from work.  Some minor bruising and swelling might still persist for a week or two longer in some patients, but in general most areas can be covered with makeup at that point and look acceptable.  You can drive once you are not taking narcotics; this is usually in a few days in most patients.  Facelifts are not particularly painful but like any surgery it take a while before you start to feel normal again.  Best of Luck, Dr. Kerr

Swelling 2 Weeks and 2 Days After Facelift, When Can I Expect this to go Down?

It has been 2 weeks and 2 days after my facelift. Only my neck has a little bruising. The swelling in face has gone down a lot but there still some. My neck is more swollen and a bit lumpy. When can I expect my neck to be more normal? I hate turtleneck sweaters and I have to go back to work in a few days and I don't want to tell anyone. I want the "refreshed" and not the "surgical" look. Thanks.

A: Facelift Swelling

It takes several weeks for the residual swelling and bruising to clear in some facelift patients.  Each patient is different, but at my Austin, Texas area plastic surgery practice I usually recommend that patients take about 2 weeks off from work.  Some minor bruising and swelling might still persist for a week or two longer in some patients, but in general most areas can be covered with makeup at that point and look acceptable.  Try to be patient, keep your head elevated, and try getting creative with makeup and/or a nice scarf and things should be looking better soon.  Sometimes a gentle massage of the neck area can help--ask your plastic surgeon what they recommend.   Hang in there.  Dr. Kerr

Effectiveness of Quick Lift Compared to a Traditional Face Lift?

What is the effectiveness and the cost of a quick face lift as compared to a traditional face lift? How permanent are each of the results?

A: Quick Lift

You can consider most of the "new" facelift procedures as mere MARKETING ploys. I strongly believe you would be best served to decide what bothers you or what changes you would like to see, then find a well qualified, experienced board certified plastic surgeon to discuss treatment options.
