A: Surgeon Recommended Doing One Thigh at a Time is This Normal?

The vast majority of Plastic surgeons perform surgery on BOTH sides of the body at the same time ; Both Breasts, both arms and both thighs. Unless there are medical reasons to the contrary, you may want to seek a second opinion.

Will a Vertical Incision Work For Tummy Tuck and Medial Thigh Lift

Is it possible to undergo a high lateral tension tummy tuck and a medial thigh lift with only a vertical incision at the same time. A surgeon advised me that both could be performed together as there would not be an incision in the groin that would oppose the pulling of the tummy tuck suturing. Will a horizontal lift with no vertical lift (i.e groin incision) address my loose thigh problem?

A: Vertical Scar Tummy Tuck The vast majority of tummy tuck surgeries can be done with a transverse scar only without having to leave the patient a permanent mid-belly vertical scar. Such a procedure, the Fleur de Lis Tummy Tuck is used in cases of massive weight loss leaving people with massive amounts of excess, damaged skin. A High Lateral Tension (Lockwood) Abdominoplasty is a certain type of extended tummy tuck in which the lateral thighs are lifted as part of the tummy tuck. This form on tummy tuck can in some cases avoid needing a formal thigh lift. Dr. Peter Aldea

What Are the Possible Complications of Thigh Lift Surgery?

I am a very fit 49-year old with very loose inner thigh skin from previous lipo (and some loose frontal thigh skin from age and long-ago weight loss) who has been thinking of inner thigh lift surgery for a long time. This scares me more than other plastic surgery procedures however - the downtime, the scarring, etc. Is there anyone who has had a good outcome from this surgery, What are the possible complications vs advantages? Also, can any plastic surgeon do this surgery or just a specialist?

The extent of surgery in an Inner Thigh Lift depends on the skin excess and how it can best be removed and the thigh / knee area contoured. You may require an incision / scar along:
- the junction of the trunk with the thigh
- along the inner aspect of the thigh (Stocking Seam incision)
- combination of BOTH incisions resulting in a T shaped scar.

The potential complications of this scar include infection, numbness, potential wound separation, scar widening, if the stitches holding the scar on the pelvic bones break there may be scar migration inferiorly on the thigh and, or pulling on the labia and recurrent lymphatic fluid collections among other potential complications.

As with all Cosmetic Plastic Surgery operations you need to weigh for yourself if the benefits outweigh the potential complications.
