1st surgery was in Oct 2008. I had a silicone L-shaped implant inserted. I first noticed this weird nostril-blocking fleshy-thing sometime after the surgery. I ignored it because I thought it was inside of my nose anyways and no one is going to see it unless they look up my nose. Revision in Nov 2011. Implant replaced with ear cartilage. The fleshy nostril-blocking thing on my right nostril is still there. I found out it was called a synechium. Is this scar tissue? Does it cause swelling? Thx.
The"fleshy nostril-blocking thing" IS scar tissue bridging across the apex of the nose, in this case, near the nasal valve, a very important part of the nasal airway. These are quite challenging to get rid off and are best avoided.
Is the graft removable (rib cartilage onlay)... if so.... would osteotomies need to be performed after removal of the graft???? or just removal would be fine? i also have spreaders.... do they need to be repositioned after removal of dorsal onlay or not?
Your question cannot be answered without a lot more detail and review of your records. Yopu have a complex history - Spreader grafts are placed mostly to improve breathing but to straighten the septum and elongate the nose. An onlay (?rib) cartilage graft is placed to increase the height of the top (dorsum) of the nose as a camouflage technique. If it is removed, can your nose afford to be narrowed? would MORE spreader grafts be called for? All these questions must be answered before discussing lateral osteotomies.
I am one week post op of a revision rhinoplasty, and I am just wondering how long I should wait before I can smoke marijuana? I do not smoke cigarettes, by no means am I looking for someone to condown my marijuana smoking I know it is illegal & I am aware of the health affects. I just want to make sure it will not affect any healing as this is my second surgery and I do NOT want anything to affect my healing, thank you very much :)
Sinced you had to have a revision procedure you really need to focus on your healing. I would avoid ALL smoking for at least a month.
I think Cheech and Chong would approve.
