Your bulky and over extended Veneers are a common issue with Prepless and Coventional Veneers. The Cosmetic dentist must carefully determine the proper and functional position of the teeth in the freeway space behind your lip. The incisal edge posisiton must also function with our speech. This can easily be accomplished with creating carefully designed Temporaries (Provisionals) to test drive and modify as needed until the ideal size and position is determined for you. With Prepless Veneers, the same "Test Drive" is accomplished with a Mock Up of the Veneers prior to starting the case. I hope this helps you and good luck.

Can a Bad Dental Crown Cause TMJ? Is it Permanent?

In Nov I got crown for tooth #30,was broken and doesn't have any infection(#30 was impacted by #31 now removd) I crown altered my bite and caused some pain and mild headaches which started to build up, also started to have stiff jaw. After two months I went to replace the crown. Now I'm waiting for my permanent crown but for last few days I had stiff jaw, weird feeling in my ear and can't close my jaw properly without effort. Is this TMJ? Is this going to be permanent? Please advise. Thank you.

A poorly fitting crown can certainly create a variety of joint/muscle symptoms called TMD (temporomandibular joint dysfunction). It is also possible to have a sub clinical problem (no symptoms felt) and precipitate symptoms by simply holding open for the crown procedure. Regardless, this is all treatable by a dentist trained in TMD and Myofascial Pain issues.

What is the Difference Between a Porcelain Veneer and a 3/4 All Porcelain Crown?

Due to an accident, I broke the bottom part of my front two teeth, so I have veneers on 8 & 9. These veneers are in the process of being redone. My dentist said there is plenty of tooth structure to do veneers again in the future too ( not for 15+ yrs) and at worst case I would have to transition to 3/4 porc crowns and then if they needed to be done again after that (15 yrs later) might have to go to all porc crowns. He said that a 3/4 is not too different from a veneer because they both wrap.

The previous answers have covered the topic quite well. I would only add that the "line" that differentiates Veneers, 3/4 Crowns, etc, and blurred so much in recent years that I prefer to discuss them all as "Porcelain Restorations".  We even do thin veneers that wrap the entire tooth, fully restoring the lost tooth structure and improving the bite. Without the deeper tooth reduction of a full crown, I have a hard time calling this restoration anything but a "clamshell veneer".
