Can Restylane Be Used to Fill Eye/Cheekbone Area?

if cheek bones were filled out it would pull up loose skin under eyes ?????

A: Restylane is an excellent choice in experienced hands, as are other HA fillers

Yes, Petraleren, Restylane and other hyaluronic acid filler injections are userful for providing softly rounded fullness to the upper cheeks, near the eye areas.  Restylane is a preferred filler for the thinning along the lower eyesocket area and the groove between the eye and the nose.

You should be aware that these uses are known as "off-label" in the US since the FDA approved use is only for the naso-labial groove.  Experienced physicians use these fillers safely in other areas of the face.

Who Should Give Restylane Injections? Plastic Surgeon vs. Nurse vs. Derm

I am a 22-year-old and I want Restylane to fix my under eye hollows. I have contacted several doctors and found out this procedure can be done by a plastic surgeon, a dermatologist or a nurse. Now I am stuck since I do not know where to go! Since I am a college student I cannot afford consultations with several doctors. Furthermore, I know of nobody who can refer to a good doctor since none of my acquaintances have had such procedures. I would like input to know which type of doctor (or nurse) I should choose.

A: Experience in Restylane injections for tear-trough or under-eye area

Chikiki55:

It is wise that you are doing research to find the most experienced person to provide HA filler (Restylane, Juvederm) injections in your under-eye area. Recent advances in this technique have provided an alternative to lower eyelid blepharoplasty surgery for many patients.

Unfortunately, RealSelf and my colleagues here cannot know who is the most qualified source in your area. After doing your on-line and telephone inquiries, you may have to schedule several consultations to get the information you need.

It is easy for physicians such as myself (a plastic surgeon) who regularly perform this technique to advise using someone in our own specialty, but you should at least expect that your injections will be done by a "core physician", one whose core training and experience included the face. That includes plastic surgeons, ENT's, and ophthalmologists with oculoplastic fellowships. Many dermatologists are also experienced. A few surgeons have well-qualified experienced advance practice nurses (nurse practitioners).

I would not recommend a MedSpa, primary care physician, OB/GYN, or so called "cosmetic medicine" or "cosmetic surgery" doctor (no recognized board certification).

Reversing Restylane Injection on Lips?

Two years ago, I had Restylane around my nose to lips. Now I have big lumps under my lips. Is there any way this can be reversed?

A: Your lumps can be treated, but might not be Restylane

Jan2364:

Lumps around your lips after a Hyaluronic Acid filler (Restylane or Juvaderm) can occur when the placement is not uniform or well-planned. Unusual patients may have reactions with inflammation and swelling too. These responses are usually self-limited and resolve with time and local medical care. Your doctor should be able to follow and advise. See:www.expertplasticsurgeon.com/html/injectables.html

The most unusual issue you raise is the 2 year duration. Your body typically metabolizes HA filler within 4-9 months, so we wonder if the material used on you might have been something else. This highlights the possible problems with truly permanent fillers. If it was Restylane, hyaluronidase enzyme should be able to take care of it much earlier.

You should see a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon for evaluation and care.
