I am currently undergoing IPL hair removal treatment on the bikinni area, but I have been told that after a year or two from the treatment, the hair is likely to grow back as if I've never went through the treatment? Is this true? Do you suggest that I switch to Diode Laser if I have white skin and dark hair? Would the above case apply to Diode Laser? Thank you
If only IPL is available, and you are a good candidate, it can be effective. True lasers can deliver more energy to the hair follicle and less energy to other components within the skin - more powerful & effective.
Laser hair removal is more accurately called hair reduction. After a series of treatments, your hair density and thickness will probably be permanently reduced. However thinner, more sparse hair growth will develop. It should be a major improvement. Much less shaving, etc.
Would IPL Be Effectivive is Clearing Up Redness on my Neck Due to Sun Damage?
Yes, intense pulsed light is excellent for improving sun damage signs within the neck. It can improve texture, lessen irregular brown pigment, and improve some redness. Selective use of true lasers can further improve treatment of these elements as well.
Consult experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons or dermatologists in your area. Be aware that many doctors offices, and "med-spas," offer similar technology but without the technical expertise. To put it humorously, you need to know more about the witch or warlock, than about the wand they're using.
PS: Prior skin preparation and avoidance of active sun exposure can be important to safe, good outcomes.
I will be undergoing radiation in 3-4 weeks for breast cancer. I was planning to have an IPL treatment for the brown age spots on my face. Would this be unwise to do prior to receiving 6 weeks of radiation for breast cancer? Would it be wiser to wait until after the radiation treatment is complete? If so, how long should I wait? Thank you for any information you are able to provide.
Kmac:
First, I am sorry to hear that you need breast cancer treatment. I hope everything goes well. Second, the radiation should be limited to your chest and axilla or shoulder area. Confirm that with your radiation oncologist. The facial hyperpigmentation should be able to be treated by Intense Pulsed Light, avoiding the radiation therapy areas, but discuss this with your plastic surgeon or dermatologist. Remember to continue sun protection and any topical skin lightening creams they have suggested.
