Which Takes Effect Faster, Botox or Dysport?

I have an appointment with my doctor for Botox/Dysport on Friday at 10a.m. I have two occasions: one on Sunday, the other on Tuesday. Which between these two treatments takes effect faster?

A: Onset of action for Botox Cosmetic and Dysport slightly different

Ms Dugan:

Like you, I have heard much of the differences between Botox (with which we all have long experience) and Dysport (which is recently available in the USA). We have used Dysport since its release in the USA and the results are only slightly faster. Once Dysport has been in use here for years, you will have a more accurate answer. However, our European colleagues also report a slightly quicker onset for Dysport.

Many patients have the same desire you mention; to look their best for a upcoming event. Remember that the most common and frequently aggravating side effect of neurotoxin injection is bruising at the injection site, which can spoil your plans. My suggestion is always try to avoid such tight scheduling when possible.

Botox or Fillers for Neck Rings and Bands?

After a neck lift, I am still not happy. I still have bands from the neck down, and also neck rings around my neck. Do I have more options? Will Botox or fillers help?

A: Neck bands and rings

Deborah Kate:

Without an in-person evaluation I can only speculate about what you may be seeing, and I do not know what was done during your surgery (there are a variety of techniques used during facelift / necklift).

Vertical bands caused by the underlying platysma muscle are one of the primary issues treated by a facelift / necklift operation. Botox alone is much less effective, but may offer a little benefit in addition to your surgery. Clarify with your surgeon if your procedure included steps designed to correct to the muscle bands.

Horizontal skin wrinkles may correspond to the rings you notice. These typically do not go completely away after necklift. The ones lower in the neck are most likely to remain. Surgery improves skin tone and underlying structures, but your skin cover remains. Additional treatments for skin texture may be helpful. These include cosmeceuticals, intense pulsed light, non-ablative skin tightening, or laser resurfacing. These are often done as a series of smaller treatments, followed by periodic maintenance visits. Seek a physician experienced with non-surgical and minimally-invasive skin treatments (usually a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon).

Which Product Do I Use for Vertical Lines? Botox or Restylane?

I have two sort of deep vertical lines right between my eye brows. Which procedure would be better, botox or restylane. Or should one have both procedures on the same site? I am not sure if you can see the vertical line on my picture. I am the one on the right. Thanks.

A: Botox for corrugator muscle lines

Texasmom:

Thanks for providing the photo to help our answers. I think the active muscle lines between the eyebrows (corrugator muscle lines) would be ideal for Botox. In fact, that is the area for which the parent company obtained FDA approval for the marketing of Botox. Many of the initial studies were done for that area.

If you did not achieve satisfactory improvement after 2 treatments and 6-8 months time, you might add a filler in addition to Botox. I would not suggest filler alone. Good luck. I think you'll look great.
