Dr. Dennis Schimpf, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon practicing in Summerville, South Carolina, with expertise in cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery of the face, breasts, and body.

As the founder of Sweetgrass Plastic Surgery, Dr. Schimpf strives to provide exceptional care for his patients. After earning his bachelor’s degree from Daemen College and his MBA from the University of South Carolina, Dr. Schimpf obtained his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. He then completed his surgery residency at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Science and his plastic surgery residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he became a full-time faculty member and honed his reconstructive surgery skills.

Upon completion of his training, Dr. Schimpf founded the Advanced Breast Reconstruction Program at the Hollings Cancer Center, which is designated by the National Cancer Institute. After five years of leading the program, Dr. Schimpf opened his private practice at the Medical University of South Carolina. Initially, he focused on reconstructive surgery, specifically breast reconstruction, cleft lip and palate surgery, and post-hernia abdominal reconstruction. Working with such challenging surgical cases gave Dr. Schimpf a strong foundation and unique experience, which he would later expand to include cosmetic aesthetic procedures.

Dr. Schimpf is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery, and the American College of Surgeons.

Throughout his career, Dr. Schimpf has been featured in various media appearances and publications. He frequently travels throughout the country to speak at medical conferences. In 2018, Dr. Schimpf published his book, Finding Beauty: Think, See and Feel Beautiful, which explores the powerful and positive impact cosmetic surgery can have on a person’s perception of themselves.

Beyond his work at Sweetgrass Plastic Surgery, Dr. Schimpf devotes his time to philanthropy. He founded Pedals 4 Peanuts, a nonprofit that provides new bicycles and helmets to underserved families.
