Mini Facelift Vs. Full Facelift: Which is Best?

A mini lift sounds sooo much more appealing to me.  less expensive...less invasive...can get rid of my sagging skin and jowls. why would i opt to get full facelift surgery?

A: Mini lift - Don't get caught up in marketing terminology

Consumers are bombarded with advertising trying to convince them that one type of facelift is better than another. Some surgeons try to brand name a certain approach to performing a facelift. As you'd expect, this is just an effort to convince patients to come into their office.

A "mini-lift" is not superior or inferior to a "full" facelift - it just depend on the particular anatomy that you have and how much surgery is needed to get a truly superior result.

A minilift generally doesn't include the portion of the incision behind the ear and can be appropriately performed when the patient has little or no sagging skin in the neck. On the other hand if the patient has lots of sagging skin in the neck, this incision behind the ear and some additional surgical work in the neck is needed to get a great result.

If a surgeon performs a mini-lift in a patient who has too much aging in the neck, the patient will be unhappy. On the other hand, a type of mini lift can be the perfect answer for some patients with lesser degrees of aging.

Instead of trying to determine on your own what the best procedure might be, the key thing is to establish a relationship with a surgeon who spends the time to communicate all of the important issues.

Make sure you're working with a surgeon who takes the time to perform that consultation in person - and doesn't delegate that important responsiblity to somebody else.

The majority of patients I see who are unhappy with their prior plastic surgeon complain about communication problems.

Lastly, make sure your surgeon has a significant focus on facelift surgery in their practice. This is your face and it should be in the hands of a surgeon who spends a major percent of their practice on facial work.

Hope that's helpful information.
